In the name of God Amen.
This is the last will and testament of me Francis Matthews of Douglas in the
Isle of Man merchant.
Being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding.
I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Alicia, three hundred pounds
British per annum. Also the house at present occupied by me in Atholl
Street with the furniture, plate, as it stands on the day of my decease the
first half years payment to become due and payable six months afterwards and
so to continue while she lives. In lieu
nevertheless of all claim and widow right she may have on my estates
real or personal. I give unto my sister Catherine Ross ten pounds British
per year during her natural life. Unto my sister Hannah Harrison fifty
pounds British both the last named at this time reside in Carlisle and
unto all the surviving children of my last sister Eliz Elliot ten pounds
British. With the payment of the before named annuities and legacies I
hereby charge and subject all my property in the Isle of Man as well as
England all my personal estate of whatever nature or kind.
I give devise and bequeath all my property in the Isle of Man and England
as well as all my personal estate of whatever nature or kind to my
beloved son Francis Mathews. Subject nevertheless to the payment of
the aforesaid annuities and legacies my just debts funeral and testamentary
expenses and I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint
my said son Francis Matthews sole executor and residuary legatee of
this my last will and testament. Hereby revoking all former wills by me
at any time made.
I declare this only to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I the said Francis Matthews have set my hand and
seal this twenty third day of April one thousand eight hundred and thirty
eight.

2d May 1845 Francis Matthews son sworn executor with pledges Geo W. Dumbell
Esq and Wm Quiggin merchant both of Douglas who have executed a bond to that
effect in present of the court.
