In the name of God, Amen I John Killip, 
near Laxey in the Parish of Lonan being 
weak in body but of sound mind & memory 
thanks be to God calling to mind the 
mortality of my body knowing that it is 
appointed to all men once to die do make 
& ordain this my last will & testament 
that is today. 
Principally and first of all I give & 
recommend my soul to Almighty God who gave 
it & my body to the earth to be buried 
after a Christian manner. As for my 
worldly goods I dispose of them in the 
following manner & form.
First I leave & bequeath unto three of 
my sons viz Patrick, Thomas & Joseph Killip 
one shilling each. 
Second I leave & bequeath to my niece Ann 
Killip five pounds British. 
Thirdly I leave & bequeath five shillings 
each to four of my poor neighbours old 
women that attend at my house to meet in 
Clague’s to be paid by my Executor to four 
of the poorest of them. 
Lastly I nominate & appoint my well beloved 
son William Killip my whole and sole Executor 
of all my goods chattels credits & effects 
whether moveable or immoveable & I also 
revoke and disannul all wills heretofore 
made by me declaring this and no other to 
be my last will & testament as writing my 
name & mark this the second day of December 
one thousand eight hundred & forty two.
