Whereas Robert Thompson late of the town of Peel deceased did in and by his
last will and testament bearing date the 27th day of February 1851 bequeath
to his daughter Margaret the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds as a legacy
to be paid to her when she should attain the age of twenty four years and
did also in the by said will devise to her the said Margaret certain shares
held by him in the Peel Town Building Company as by reference thereto with
probate thereof granted to Eliza Thompson the Executrix therein named at an
Eccl Court holden at St John's Chapel the 10th day of April 1851 may appear
and whereas the said Margaret Thompson having now attained the said age of
twenty four years. The
said Eliza Thompson has this day paid to her the full account of the said
legacy.
Know all men therefore by these presents that the said Margaret Thompson
late of Liverpool but at present of Peel in the Isle of Man doth hereby own
and acknowledge to have received from her mother Mrs Eliza Thompson
executrix of the will of her late father the said Robert Thompson the full
and  just sum of one hundred and fifty pounds being amount of the said
legacy bequeathed to her in and by the will of the said Robert Thompson
dated as aforesaid the 27th February 1851 and proved at an Eccl Court holden
at St John's the 10th day of April 1851 and the said Margaret Thompson in
consideration of such payment doth hereby release exonerate and discharge
the said Eliza Thompson in her capacity of executrix of the said Robert
Thompson and the estate and effects of the said Robert Thompson of and from
all and every claim or demand for an
on account of the said legacy.   And she doth hereby direct that the same
may be and stand cancelled upon record.
In witness whereof she hath herewith subscribed her name this second
day of February one thousand eight hundred and sixty three.

!This is the last will and testament of me Robert Thompson of the town
of Peel made this twenty seventh day of February one thousand eight hundred
and fifty one.
I give and devise to my son Robert my half or moiety of that dwelling
house situate in the town of Peel wherein I now reside with the yard and
warehouse attached thereto - to be possessed by him his heirs, or
assigns at and upon  the death or marriage of my wife Eliza Thompson
whichever shall first happen - subject however, to this express
condition, that is to say, that he the said Robert Thompson his heirs or
assigns shall upon entering into possession of the said half or moiety of
the said house and premises pay or secure to be paid to my sons Thomas and
William the  sum of fifty pounds each - and to the payment of which said
sums with interest there on, from the time, the said Robert will be entitled
to possession the said half or moiety of the said house and premises are
hereby made chargeable.
I give and devise to my said son Thomas (in addition to the said sum of
fifty pounds made chargeable upon the said dwelling house as aforesaid and
to which sum is to be in the nature of a legacy) my half or moiety of that
warehouse and ------- Kewin to be possessed by him his heirs or assigns at
and upon the death or marriage of my said wife Eliza
whichever shall first happen.
I give and devise to my son William (in addition to the said sum of fifty
pounds made chargeable upon the said dwelling house as aforesaid and which
sum is to be in the nature of a legacy) my half or moiety of that
new dwelling house and premises situate in the said town and adjoining
the house wherein I now reside to be possessed by him his heirs or
assigns at and upon his attaining the age of twenty-one years.
I leave and bequeath to my son George the sum of one hundred and thirty
pounds as legacy - to be paid to him upon his attaining the age of
twenty-two years.
I leave and bequeath to my son Joseph the sum of one hundred and thirty
pounds as a legacy to be paid to him upon his attaining the age of
twenty-two years.
I leave and bequeath to my son Godfrey the sum of one hundred and sixty
pounds as a legacy to be paid to him upon his attaining the age of
twenty-two years.
I leave and bequeath to my daughter Eliza the sum of one hundred pounds as a
legacy to be paid to her upon her attaining the age of twenty-five years.
I leave and bequeath to my daughter Margaret the sum of one hundred and
fifty pounds as a legacy to be paid to her upon her attaining the age of
twenty-four years - and also leave and devise to the said Margaret the
shares held by me in the "Peel Town Building Company" to be possessed by her
upon her attaining the said age of twenty four years.
I leave and bequeath to my daughter Emma the sum of two hundred
pounds as a legacy to be paid to her upon her attaining the age of twenty
two years.
Provided always and my will is and I do hereby declare that if any or
either of my said several children shall depart this life before the
several legacies herein before bequeathed to them or either of them as
herein before shall be payable to them as aforesaid mentioned the legacy or
legacies so bequeathed to such child or children so dying as aforesaid shall
go to and be equally divided to and amongst the whole of my
surviving children share and share alike, and the same is hereby bequeathed
to them accordingly - it being clearly to be understood, however, that such
surviving children shall not be entitled to such share
or shares until the time that such deceased child or children would if
living have been entitled to such legacy or legacies as herein before
mentioned.
And my will further is that the rent issues and profits of the dwelling
house wherein I now reside and devised to my son Robert as aforesaid,
and of the said to all houses devised to my son Thomas as aforesaid shall be
the property of my said wife Eliza Thompson for and during the term
of her natural life in so long as she shall remain unmarried - And that
the rent issues and profits of the house devise to my son William as
aforesaid and the dividends on the shares in the Building Company and
the interest in the several legacies hereinbefore bequeathed shall be the
property of my said wife Eliza  for and during the time of the postponement
of the payment of the said several legacies and devises
and until the several legatees and devisees will attain the respective
ages when the said legacies and devised will become payable to them as
aforesaid and I do therefore hereby bequeath the said rents and interest to
her the  said Eliza duing the periods aforesaid in order to enable her
to maintain educate, clothe, and advance my said children.
And lastly I nominate, constitute, and appoint my said wife Eliza
Thompson executrix of this my will.
In testimony whereof I the said Robert Thompson have herein to subscribed my

10 Apr 1851 - Eliza Thompson sworn executrix with pledges being Robert
J. Moore and Robert Roskell.

Received from Mrs Thompson the sum of one hundred pounds sterling through
the Union Bank of Australia being a legacy left to Eliza Jane my wife by her
father Robert Thompson decease on her arriving at the age of twenty five
years.   John Keown.

I Margaret Broadbent formerly Keown of the town of Peel IOM wife of
John Broadbent being sworn upon the Holy Evangelists depose and say I am
sister to John Keown who left this island nearly nine years ago and
proceeded to Australia where he has since resided
the said John Keown had sometime previously intermarried with Eliza
Jane Thompson daughter of the late Robert Thompson of Peel and Eliza
his wife.  I am well acquainted with the hand writing of my brother the
said John Keown.  The paper writing attached hereto and marked with the
letter A purporting to be a receipt from my said brother to Mrs Thompson for
one hundred pounds and dated the 15 June 1857 is all in the proper hand
writing of my said brother John Keown and the name subscribed at foot of
said receipt is also in his hand writing.  Jane aware from correspondence
with him that he wrote at "Geelong" in Australia at the time of the said
receipt was dated.
Witness my name this fifty day of  May one thousand and eight hundred and
sixty three.

Whereas a marriage has been agreed upon and is intended shortly to be
solemnized between Edmund Mitchell of Accrington in the County of Lancashire
and Emma Thompson of the town of Peel on the Isle of Man spinster.
And whereas the said Emma Thompson is entitled under the will of her father
the last Robert Thompson the said Town to a legacy of two
hundred pounds and has called on Eliza Thompson executrix of the said Robert
Thompson for the payment of the said legacy.
And whereas the said Edmund Mitchell has agreed to join the said Emma
Thompson in granting a receipt for the said legacy.
Now know all men by these present that the said Emma Thompson by and with
the full consent and approbation of the said Edmund Mitchell
testified by his becoming a party hereto and executing these presents do own
and acknowledge to have received from Eliz Thompson executrix of Robert
Thompson the sum of two hundred pounds being the amount of a legacy
bequeathed to the said Emma Thompson by the said Robert Thompson and do
hereby direct that the same be and stand cancelled on record.  Witness their
names this the 13th day of April one thousand
eight hundred and sixty eight.
