This is the last will and testament of me Robert Corteen of the town of
Douglas being of sound mind memory and understanding at the making hereof.
I give and bequeath to my son Henry my watch.
I give and bequeath to my son Robert all my mathematical instruments.
I give and bequeath to my son John James my "Imperial Encyclopedia" complete
in five volumes.
I give and bequeath to my son Walter my Kelly's Geography" complete in two
volumes and his choice of four other volumes from my printed books.
I give and bequeath to all my children in equal shares to be divided by
lot, the remainder of my printed books reserving to my wife the best
Bible.
I give devise and bequeath to my two daughters Christian Corteen and Frances
Sophia Corteen all and singular my moiety of our dwelling house, garden, and
premises situated in Albert Terrace in the parish of Onchan subject to a
moiety of whatever encumberances there may be chargeable thereon at the time
of my decease.  To Have and To Hold unto the said Christian Corteen and
Frances Sophia Corteen the said premises with the appurtenances and to their
heirs and assigns from and after the decease of their mother Elizabeth
Corteen my wife forever and in case either of
my said daughters shall depart this life under the age of twenty one
years or without leaving lawful issue her surviving, then and in that
case, I give  devise and bequeath to the survivor of my said daughters all
and singular my moiety of the said dwelling house, garden, and premises
To Have and To Hold unto the said survivor from and after the decease  of
her mother aforesaid and to her her heirs and assigns forever.
I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth Corteen my wife aforesaid all and
singular the use occupancy and enjoyment of my moiety of our said dwelling
house, garden and premises, situated in Albert Terrace as aforesaid for and
during the time she may said wife remains unmarried a widow in my name.
I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Corteen my wife aforesaid the use occupancy
and enjoyment of my moiety of our household furniture and personal estate
for and during the time she remains unmarried , a widow
in my name.  And these bequests of the use occupancy and enjoyment of my
real and personal estate to my said wife are however made on the express
condition that she my said wife shall find and provide suitable trades for
all our said children to their liking that also she my said
wife shall continue to them our said children the necessary maintenance,
education, clothing, and support during their minority and during the
terms of their apprenticeship always provided that if she my said wife shall
at any time enter a second time into a married life and become the wife of
another person after being a widow, then and in that case, the
said bequests of the use, occupancy and enjoyment of my real and personal
estate shall fully terminate and become null and void and  my moiety of the
said dwelling house, garden, and premises I give devise and bequeath to my
aforesaid two daughters To Have and To Hold unto my said daughters and to
their heirs and assigns as aforesaid from and after the second marriage of
their said mother forever.  And also in case of
the second marriage of my wife Elizabeth Corteen aforesaid then and in that
case, I give and bequeath my personal estate to all my children then living
in equal shares subject however to the support clothing and education of
those of them that may be under the age of twenty one years, that is to say,
subject to the deficiency of support to such minors (if any)  after their
mother has rendered them such support as she is bound to do by law or
equity.
I give and bequeath to any other person or persons not named herein and
having a right to claim an interest in this my will one shilling legacy.
Lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my wife Elizabeth Corteen
aforesaid whole and sole executrix of this my last will and testament hereby
revoking making void all former wills by me made declaring this paper
writing only as and for my whole and sole last will
and testament.  In testimony whereof I have hereunto have subscribed my name
this ---day of ----- in the year one thousand eight hundred and
