61 Ballaugh
In the name of God Amen.
I William Boyde of the parish of Ballaugh being of a sound disposing mind
memory and understanding do make declare and publish this to be my last will
and testament in the following manner and form viz:
First I commend my soul to God and my body to a Christian burial.
I give, devise, grant, and bequeath unto my wife Catherine Boyde all and
singular my right title interest and property whatsoever in and to a
dwelling house out offices and garden and lands situate in the parish of
Ballaugh aforesaid the said lands are in three different parcels close by
each other and also another said parcel of meadow land situate in the parish
of Lezayre and known by the name of Kerrow Garrow being part of Close in
Rhesour to have and to hold unto the said Catherine Boyde my
wife as aforesaid her heirs and assigns forever commencing from the
time of my decease but I further pronounce and declare that if she the said
Catharine Boyde my wife do not remain in my name, that, then and in that
case, the said lands and premises is to return to my lawful heirs.
I leave and bequeath unto my son William Boyde the sum of five shillings
as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Jane the sum of five pounds as legacy.
Bequeath unto my daughter Anne the sum of five pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Eleanor the sum of five pounds as
legacy.
Lastly I nominate, constitute, and ordain, and appoint my wife whole and
sole executrix of this my last will and testament and residuary legatee
of all and singular the rest and remainder of my goods, monies, credits, and
effects and of my personal estate of all descriptions whatsoever and
wheresoever in testimony whereof I have subscribed my name this the 23rd of

At a Chapter Court holden at Kirk Michael on the 26th day of May 1853. John
Cannell and John Cannell Junior the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing
paper writing purporting to be the will of William Boyde, deceased, having
made oath on the Holy Evangelists that said William
Boyde the testator when of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding
duly signed and executed the same in their presence as and for his last will
and testament. Catherine Boyde his widow and relict
the executrix therein named is therefore sworn well and truly to fulfil
and execute said will according to law to pay all just debts legacies and
funeral expenses of said testator so far forth as the goods and effects will
extend and the law bind her. And to return to the Archdeacon's Registry a
full true and perfect inventory of said goods and effects with an accurate
account of her acts and proceedings in the premises when thereunto lawfully
required and to these ends she hath given pledges namely John Cannell and
John Cain both of Orrisdale in the parish of Kirk Michael who have executed
the usual bond in presence of the court. Probatums Est T. A. Corlett
Whereas the Eccl Court of this Diocese hath this day granted probate of the
will of William Boyde of Ballaugh, deceased, to Catherine Boyde his
wife the executrix named.
And Whereas John Cannell of Orrisdale in the parish of Michael and John
Caine of said place in the parish of Michael have agreed to become
pledges for the said Cath Boyde for the due administration of the said
Estate according to law.
Therefore know all men by these Presents, that we, the said John
Cannell and John Cain hereby bind and oblige ourselves and our Executors and
Administrators, as pledges for the said Catherine Boyde for the due and
faithful administration of the goods and effects of the said deceased
according to law. And in her default we bind ourselves and our Executors
and administrators to be answerable to all parties interest in the said
Estate, or the Administration thereof.
Witness our subscriptions this 26th day of May 1853.

Received from Catherine Boyde widow of the late William Boyde of the parish
of Ballaugh whole and sole executrix of the will of the said
William Boyde the sum of five pounds a legacy left to me Catherine
Boyde by my Father's will.
And whereas at a Chapter Court holden at KK Michael on the 26th day of May
1853 Probate of the will of the said William Boyde bearing date the 23rd day
of November 1852 was granted to Catherine Boyde the
executrix named in the will of the said William Boyde.
Therefore know all men by these presents that I the undersigned
Catherine Boyde do hereby own and acknowledge to have receive dthe
sum of five pounds for Catherine Boyde the executrix of the said will.
And I do hereby order and direct that the said legacy shall and may be
cancelled on record as witness my subscription this the 2nd day of

day of November 1852 was granted to Catherine Boyde the
executrix named in the will of the said William Boyde.
Therefore know all men by these presents that I the undersigned Thos Scarffe
do hereby acknowledge to have received the sum of five pounds the amount of
the legacy left to my wife Ann daughter of the said
William Boyde from Catherine Boyde the executrix of the said will and I
do hereby order and direct that the said legacy shall and may stand
cancelled on record as witness my subscription this the 2nd day of
January 1888.
