1 Lonan
This testifieth to be the last will
and testament of Matthias Cowley
of Ballabeg in the Parish of Lonan
being weak in body but of sound mind
memory and judgement at the making
hereof. I dispose of my worldly goods
and effects as follows -
I leave and bequeath unto my wife
Elizabeth Cowley alias Croughan all
and singular those lands and premises
called and known by the name or names
of Cronk-e-Torrey being a part of Intack
Land numbered one situated in the Parish
of Lonan and which parcel I obtained
as dowry from my late Father in law
Phillip Croughan with my wife Elizabeth
the said parcel to have and to hold unto
her after my decease to whensoever she shall
seem fit and proper to dispose of the same
by will, bequest, settlement or any such
writings. But nevertheless whereas there is
a mortgage affecting the land of Cronk-
e-Torrey and a parcel called the
Close situated in Lonan and the two parcels
given to John Clague of Lonan in and
by way of security for the sum of forty pounds
Sterling. I hereby will and declare my
intention is that she my wife Elizabeth
shall be subject to pay the said sum
of forty pounds unto the Mortgagee
so as to leave the parcel called the
Close clear unto my son John Cowley
heir at law so as the parcel called the
Close to be his clear.
I leave and bequeath unto my three
sons namely John Cowley, Thomas
Cowley and William Cowley the sum
of two shillings and six pence each
I leave and bequeath unto my two
daughters namely Ann Cowley wife of
James Kelly and Jane Cowley now wife
of James Crebbin the sum of two shillings
each as legacy.
Lastly I nominate constitute and
appoint my beloved wife Elizabeth
as aforesaid my whole and sole executrix
and residuary legatee of all the rest and
remainder of my goods chattels and effects
of whatever kind or description named.
And this I declare to be my last will and
Testament in presence of witnesses this
the twenty seventh day of December one
thousand eight hundred and sixty one
