In the name of God amen I Margaret
Gelling, widow, of Glen-Gawne in the parrish
of Lonan do hereby make this my last Will
and Testament in manner following
I leave and bequeath unto my son William
Gelling the sum of one pound as legacy and
unto my daughter Margaret wife of Mathias
Callow the sum of one pound and the one half
or morety of my wearing apparel as legacy --.
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Jane
wife of Thomas Scarff the sum of one pound
and my Feather Bed and Spining Wheel and
the other half or morety of my wearing apparel
as legacy. And I leave and bequeath unto my
son John Gelling all my right title and interest
in and unto those houses lands and premises
called and known by the name of Glen Gawne

situate in the parish of Lonan and Bounded by
the quarterland of Ballagawne on the North and on
the East the quarterland of Baldrine on the West and
NorthWest and the quarterland of Ballig on the South to
have and to hold the said bequeathed lands and premises
to himself his heirs and assigns for ever Subject
nevertheless to the payment of the Legacies
herein bequeathed in the last Will and Testament of my late
Husband John Gelling - the said legacies to be a [good?]
lien on the said lands and premises untill paid
and I do hereby nominate constitute appoint and
ordain my afore said son John Gelling my whole
and sole Executor .. [black blotch] … legatee of all
the rest and remainder of my goods chattels and
effects of whatsoever kind nature or description
soever and where soever and I do hereby revoke
all wills by me heretofore made and do publish
and declare this to be my last will and testament
this Fifthteenth day of December one thousand Eight
hundred and fifty-six December 15th 1856.

held in Douglas on the
16th day of May 1862
[The following is in a horrible back-hand writing]
Thomas Lewin and Thomas Kelly the subscribed
witnesses to the foregoing paper writing purporting to
be the last Will and Testament of Margaret Gelling
deceased and having made oath on the Holy Evangelist
that the said Margaret Gelling the testatrix when of sound
and disposing mind memory and understanding duly signed
and executed the same as and for her last Will and
Testament in their presence. John Gelling the [crossout]
executor in said Will named is therefore sworn well
and truly to fulfil and execute the same and to
administer all and singular the personal estate and
effects of [use and ….?] according to law by paying the just
debts and funeral expenses of the deceased and the legacies
[asertained?] in [her] will, so far forth as the same will [?]
extend and the law bind him and to return unto [the]
archdeacons registry a full true and perfect inventory of all
and singular the said estates and effects with an accurate
account of his administration thereof when thereunto lawfully
required and to these ends he hath given pledges namely
John Cain of Lonan and John Watterson of Braddan
who have entered unto and executed the usual Bond
in presence of the Court.

The humble petition of Thomas
Scarff and Jane his Wife ---
Sheweth,
That Margaret Gelling late of the
parish of Lonan your petitioner Jane’s
mother departed this life on or about the
ninth day of February 1861, having first
duly made and published her last
Will and Testament whereof she
appointed John Gelling of the said
parish Executor and the said Testatrix
has left a legacy to your petitioner in
the said Will
That the said John Gelling has not
yet obtained probate of the said Will
Wherefore your petitioners pray
a hearing hereof and that
probate of the said Will

Whereas the Ecclesiastical Court of the Isle and Diocese of Sodor and Mann hath this day
granted probate of the will of Margaret Gelling
late of Lonan widow to John Gelling of Glengawne
Lonan
And whereas John Cain of Ballacogeen
in the parish of Lonan and John Watterson
of [Fromode ?] in the parish of Braddan
have agreed to become Pledges for the due and faithful Administration of the said Estate by the said
John Gelling according to Law.
Now, Know all Men by these Presents, that we, the said John
Cain and John Watterson
hereby bind and oblige ourselves jointly and severally, and our Heirs, Executors and Administrators
firmly by these presents, as pledges for the said John Gelling that he
shall well and truly administer, all and singular, the Personal Estate and Effects of the said
deceased according to Law. And in his default we bind ourselves, and each of us, for
the whole, our Heirs, Executors, and Administrators to be answerable and responsible to the said
Court, and to all parties interested in the said estate and effects, or the administration thereof in
the place and stead of the said John Gelling
Witness our subscriptions this 16 day of May in the Year of our Lord,
One Thousand Eight Hundred and sixty-two.
