The humble petition of John Christian of Whitehaven


Sheweth:
That Catherine Kaighan late of the parish of Braddan Widow 
departed this life in or about the month of December last intestate.
That your petitioner is Brother of the said Catherine Kaighan 
and the only surviving next of Kin of the said Catherine Kaighan
That it is requested that letters of Administration to the Estate 
of the said Catherine Kaighan should be granted to some fit and proper person.
Wherefore your petitioner prays a hearing hereof and that your 
worship will be pleased to grant [undistinguishable Latin] of the 
Estate of the said Catherine Kaighan to George Maley Sumner of 
Braddan or to some other fit and proper person and […]

Ordered that this petitioner do come to be heard at an Ecclesiastical Court 
to be holden at Douglas on Friday next the 20th day of February instant. 
Whereof all proper parties are to have due notice

At an adjoined Eccl. Court held at Douglas the 26th February 1863
Upon hearing that petitioner in presence of the parties or their Advocates and 
it appearing that Catherine Kaighan in this petition named some time ago departed 
this life a Widow and Intestate leaving her Brother John Christian the petitioner 
her only next of kin her surviving. George Maley, Sumner of Braddan is at the 
request of petitioner appointed and sworn well and truly to administrate the goods 
and effects of the said deceased according to Law and to pay all just debts and 
funeral expenses of said deceased so far and forth as the goods will extend and 
the law bind him, to return a true and faithful Inventory thereof with an accurate 
account of his acts and proceedings in the […] to the Episcopal Registry of this 
Diocese when thereunto lawfully required and to these ends he hath given pledges 
namely Claude Cannell Esq. and Robert Heywood Johnson both of the Town of Douglas 
in the parish of Braddan who have entered into and executed the usual Bond in 
presence of the Court. Decretum Est.

Whereas the Ecclesiastical Court of this Diocese hath this day granted Administration 
of all and singular the goods and effects of Catherine Kaighan deceased to George Maley.
And Whereas Claude Cannell of Douglas in the Parish of Braddan and Robert Heywood Johnson 
of Douglas in the Parish of Braddan have agreed to become pledges for the said George Maley 
for the due administration of the said Estate according to law.
Therefore know all men by these Presents, that we, the said Claude Cannell and Robert Heywood Johnson 
hereby bind and oblige ourselves and our Executors and Administrators, as pledges for 
the said George Maley for the due and faithful administration of the goods and effects 
of the said deceased according to law. And in his default we bind ourselves and our 
Executors and Administrators to be answerable to all parties interested in the said Estate, 
or the Administration thereof.
Witness our Subscriptions this 26th day of February 1863
