This is the last will and testament of Lewis Crebbin of the town of
Douglas in the Isle of Man Merchant.
I give and bequeath unto my niece Mary Talbot (formerly Crebbin)
daughter of my brother George Crebbin the sum of five hundred pounds as a
legacy.
I give and bequeath unto my niece Eliza Crebbin another daughter of the said
George Crebbin the sum of five hundred pounds as a legacy.
I give and bequeath unto my niece Margaret Crebbin another daughter of the
said George Crebbin the sum of five hundred pounds as legacy.
I give and bequeath unto my eldest brother Charles Crebbin at present
residing in London the sum of two hundred pounds as a legacy.
I give and bequeath unto my niece Elizabeth Crebbin daughter of the said
Charles Crebbin the sum of two hundred pounds as a legacy.
I give and bequeath unto Mrs Catharine Isabella Gelling sister of my late
dear wife the sum of fifteen hundred pounds as a legacy and also four shares
in the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company with all dividends that
may be due therein at the time of my decease also four shares in The Douglas
Gas Light Company with all dividends that may be due thereon at the time of
my decease.  I also give and bequeath unto the said Catherine Isabella
Gelling my piano Forte Ladies Work Box Tea Caddy, Work Table, a mahogany
chest of drawers, silver spoons, fish slice, Silver Tear po,t
and the whole of which are marked with the Letter C or G and belonged to an
were principally presents given to my late wife and I request that all other
articles that can be identified as being the property of my late
wife shall also be given to the said Catharine Isabella Gelling to whom it
is my wish they should belong.
I give and bequeath unto Miss Amelia Stowell daughter of the late
Thomas Stowell Esquire formerly Clerk of the Rolls of this Island four
shares in the said Isle of Man Steam Packet Company with all dividends that
may be due thereon at the time of my decease.
I give and bequeath unto Miss Elizabeth Stowell another daughter of the said
Thomas Stowell four shares in the said Isle of Man Steam Packet Company with
all dividends that may be due thereon at the time of my decease.
I give and bequeath unto Miss Jane Stowell another daughter of the said
Thomas Stowell four shares in the said Isle of Steam Packet Company
with all dividends that may be due thereon at the time of my decease.
I give and bequeath unto Richard Gelling the eldest brother of my late
wife and at present residing on the South Quay in the town of Douglas
four shares in the said Isle of Man Steam Company also four shares in
the said Douglas Gas Light Company with all dividends that may be due
on the said shares at the time of my decease.
I give and bequeath unto James Gelling of the Market Place in the said
town of Douglas four shares in the said Isle of Man Steam Packet
Company and also four shares in the said Douglas Gas Light Company
with all dividends that may be due on the said shares at the time of my
decease.
I give and bequeath unto Jane Kelly my servant the sum of fifty pounds
as a legacy for long and faithful services performed.
I go hereby direct that said several legacies shall be paid and the said
several shares transferred to the several parties herein before named within
one month after my decease.
I give devise and bequeath unto my brother the said George Crebbin all
my right share title and interest of in and to those two dwelling houses
shops and premises situate on Duke Street at the said town of Douglas at
present in our and Mr Hugh Kerruish occupation with the warehouses in Fort
Street and all appurtenances to the same severally belonging and extending
from Duke Street aforesaid to Fort Street.  Also all and
singular my right share title and interest of in and to a certain
warehouse and premises situate in Wellington Buildings in the said town
of Douglas.  Also all my other real property of every kind and nature
whatsoever and wheresoever the same may be situated.
To Have and To Hold the said right title and interest of me the said
Lewis Crebbin in and to the said several dwelling houses shops
warehouses and premises aforesaid with all appurtenances to the same
severally belonging or therewith usually held occupied and enjoyed and
all other property of mine whatsoever unto the said George Crebbin his heirs
and assigns from the day of my death forever.  And I leave and bequeath all
the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal
estate stock in trade, book debts, promissory notes, and effects of whatever
kind and nature soever and of every description unto the said George Crebbin
who I appoint sole residuary legatee of this my last will
and testament and lastly I nominate and constitute and appoint the said
George Crebbin executor hereof. Hereby revoking all former wills by me
at any time heretofore made.
In witness whereof I the said Lewis Crebbin the testator have to this my
last will and testament set my hand this eighteenth day of March in the yard
of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty three.

Catherine Isabella Gelling intermarried with Alfred Rogers of
Manchester Esquire and has now four children I am therefore increase in the
my so bequeathed to her by my said will to the sum of three thousand pounds.
This is a codicil to the foregoing last will and testament of me Lewis
Crebbin of the town of Douglas Merchant. Whereas by the foregoing last will
and testament bearing date the 18 day of March 1853 of me Lewis Crebbin. I
have devised the sum of fifteen hundred pounds to Miss Catharine Isabella
Gelling the sister of my late dear wife and whereas
the said Catharine Isabella has since the date of my said will
intermarried with Alfred Rogers of Manchester Esquire and has now four
children I am therefore
--------- of increasing the legacy so bequeathed to her by my said will
to the sum of three thousand pounds I therefore leave and bequeath unto the
said Catharine Isabella Rogers previously Gelling the further sum of fifteen
hundred pounds which with the said pecuniary legacy of fifteen hundred
pounds left to her by my said will under her maiden name of
Gelling will make up the said sum of three thousand pounds legacy to her the
said Catharine Isabella Rogers previously Gelling.
I leave and bequeath unto my faithful servant Jane Kelly an annuity of
eight pounds per annum equal to the same wages she get from me for and
during the term of her natural life to be paid to her by half yearly
payments by my executor and I charge my real and personal property
with the said annuity of eight pounds to the said Jane Kelly during her
life the said annuity to be in addition to the legacy left to her by my said
will and also in addition to any wages that may be due to her at my
decease.
I leave and bequeath all or any real property of what kind or nature
soever purchased or required by me since that date of my said will to my
brother George Crebbin his heirs and assigns whom I appoint residuary
legatee and in all other respects I hereby respectively ratify and confirm
my said last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this twentieth
day of December one thousand eight hundred and sixty.       Lewis Crebbin.

At a Chapter Court held in Douglas on the 20th day of May 1865.  Richard
Gelling having made oath on the Holy Evangelists that Lewis Crebbin the
testator when of sound mind duly signed the foregoing paper writing bearing
date the 18th day of March 1853 as and for his last will and testament in
his presence and in presence of Edward Williams since deceased and Samuel
Harris having made oath that the paper writing annexed purporting to be a
codicil to the said will was duly signed by the said Lewis Crebbin when of
sound mind in his presence and in presence
of the said Edward Williams.   George Crebbin the executor is sworn well and
truly to execute the same two paper writings to pay all the just
debts legacies and funeral expenses of the testator so far forth as the
goods and effects will extend and the law bind him and to distribute the
residue thereof according to law and to return an inventory of the said
estate with an accurate account of his acts and proceedings in the premises
to the Episcopal Registry of this Diocese when thereunto
lawfully required and to these ends he hath given pledges namely Samuel
Harrison and Henry B. Watts both of the town of  Douglas who have executed
the usual bond in the presence of the court.
