This is the last will and testament of me Margaret Garrett widow of
Hugh Garrett Royal Navy deceased who being of sound mind memory and
understanding doth make publish and declare the same in form and
manner following:
I leave and bequeath to my grandson John Joseph Gelling my silver watch.
I leave and bequeath to my grandsons William Sinclair Gelling, Robert
Gelling and James Henry Gelling the sum of twenty pounds each to be
paid to them as they respectively attain the age of twenty one years but
without interest until then.
I leave and bequeath to my granddaughters Hannah Gelling, Mary Jane Gelling
and Christian Rebecca Gelling the sum of forty pounds each to be paid to
them as they respectively attain the age of twenty one years but without
interest until then.
I leave and bequeath to my daughter Rebeccca Gelling wife of William
Sinclair Gelling  of Boshen in the parish of Marown the sum of five
pounds to be paid to her upon my decease, her receipt alone to be a
sufficient discharge.
I leave and bequeath to my sister in law Ann Gell wife of Evan Gell of
Ballalaugh in the parish of German with whom I reside all my household
furniture and effects (save a chest of drawers) and all my wearing
apparel of every description.
I leave and bequeath to my niece Ann Gell daughter of my said brother
the mahogany chest of drawers herein before reserved.
I direct that in the event of any of my grandchildren to whom I have
bequeathed the pecuniary legacies departing this life previous to
attaining the age of twenty one years, such legacy shall be divided
equally amongst other surviving legatees or their lawful issue.
I nominate constitute and appoint my said brother Evan Gell executor and
residuary legatee of this my will.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this Eighth day
of May One thousand eight hundred and sixty six.        Margaret Garrett.

16 May1867 Probate granted to Evan Gell

11 Apr 1868 - Rebecca Gelling and Wm S. Gelling rec'd 5 pounds. Whereas
Margaret Garrett widow of Hugh Garrett late of the Royal Navy deceased did
by her last will and testament bearing date the 8th day of May 1866 amongst
other things therein contained bequeath to her granddaughter Hannah Gelling
a legacy of forty pounds to be paid to her without any interest thereout
upon her attaining the age of twenty one years.  And whereas the said will
was duly prove at a Chapter Court held at Peel on
the 16th day of May 1867 and probate thereof was granted to Evan Gell the
brother of the testatrix the executor in said will named and
appointed.
And whereas the said Hannah Gelling has arrived at and attained the age
of twenty one years - And has intermarried with and is now the wife of
Robert Cretney of Ridgeway Iowa County and state of Wisconsin in the United
State of America.
Now know all men by these presents that I Robert Cretney of Ridgeway Iowa
County and state of Wisconsin in the USA and Hannah my lawful
wife the legatee above named do hereby own and acknowledge to have
been paid and satisfied by the said executor Evan Gell the sum of 40 pounds
sterling money in full payment satisfaction and absolute
discharge of the aforesaid legacy of forty pounds so bequeathed by the said
will to the said Hannah.  And we do exonerate release acquit and discharge
the said executor Evan Gell his executors and administrator
the estate of the said Margaret Garret deceased and every person whomsoever
of and from all further claim or demand on account of the aforesaid legacy
of forty pounds and every part thereof.  And do will and direct that the
said legacy of forty pounds be and do stand cancelled on the said will on
records.  As witness their subscriptions this 28th day of December in the
year one thousand eight hundred and seventy three. Robert Cretney

Know all men by these presents that James Henry Gelling of Bawshen in
the parish of Marown farmer doth hereby own and acknowledge to have received
from and been paid by Edward Martin of the town of Castletown executor in
trust of the will of Evan Gell formerly of Ballalough in the parish of
German (now deceased) the full and just sum of twenty pounds being the
amount of a certain pecuniary legacy left and devised to the
said James Henry Gelling and by the will of Margaret Garrett, which said
will bears date the 8th day of May 1866, and which was duly proved at a
Chapter Court held in Peel on the 16th day of May 1867 and probate thereof
granted to the said Evan Gell (now deceased) the executor named in such will
who was duly sworn as such executor in due form of law.
And the said James Henry Gelling doth hereby exonerate discharge and release
the estate of the said Margaret  Garrett and the estate of the said Evan
Gell executor of the said Margaret Garret as aforesaid from all further
claim liability or demand in anywise whatsoever in respect of
the said legacy of twenty pounds and he doth hereby desire and direct
that the same maybe and stand cancelled upon record.  In witness
whereof the said James Henry Gelling hath hereunto subscribe his name this
Thirteenth day of February One thousand eight hundred and eighty
six.
