31 Rushen
In the name of God Amen. The sixteenth of December One Thousand and Eight
Hundred and Sixty Seven.
John Qualtrough of the parish of Rushen, Farmer, being very sick, and weak
of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, therefore
calling unto mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed once
unto all men to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament,
that is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul
into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the
earth, to be buried in decent Christian burial, at the discretion of my
executors; nothing doubting, but at the general resurrection I shall receive
the same again, by the Almighty power of God; and as touching such worldly
estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give demise,
and dispose of the same in the following manner and form
First I give and bequeath to Margaret my dearly beloved wife the half of the
house and premises in which we now reside in the parish of Rushen part of
the estate of Ballagawne, and half of the household furniture, and half of
the live and and dead stock. Also I give and bequeath to my beloved
daughter Margaret the sum of ten pounds. Also I bequeath to my beloved
daughter Sarah ten pounds, and to my beloved daughter Mary Ann the sum of
ten pounds, and I bequeath to my stepdaughter Elizabeth Cubbon the sum of
five pounds, to be paid when Mary Ann will become of age.
