Ramsey 1869 80
This is the last will and testament of me Elizabeth Cubbon of Albion Terrace
in the town of Ramsey and parish of Lezayre. I leave and bequeath unto any
person who could otherwise claim my interest in my estate one shilling
legacy.
I leave and bequeath the sum of five thousand pounds in trust to and for the
use and behalf of the wife and children of my great nephew Mark Cubbon
Rimmer the same to be laid out at interest on good and sufficient real
security the sum of forty pounds such interest to be paid yearly and every
year by way of annuity to the mother of the said Mark Cubbon Rimmer during
her natural life and the remainder of the yearly interest to be paid to the
said Mark Cubbon Rimmer and if he survive his mother he to have the whole of
such interest for his life time and if he do not survive his mother his
proportion of the yearly interest in that case to be paid over from the time
of his death to and for the use of the wife and children of the said Mark
Cubbon Rimmer and I direct that upon the death of the said Mark Cubbon
Rimmer and his mother that the said principal sum of five thousand pounds
be paid over in equal shares to and amongst the wife and children of the
said Mark Cubbon Rimmer and those who may lawfully represent them provided
always that if the wife of the said Mark Cubbon Rimmer in case of her
surviving him should marry again that then she shall forfeit her share in
the said legacy and that such her share shall be divided equally amongst the
children of the said Mark Cubbon Rimmer and their lawful representatives.
I leave and bequeath unto the children of Reverend Bowyer Harrison Vicar of
Maughold and Theodosia his late wife the following legacies with benefit of
survivorship if any of them die in my lifetime without having issue, that is
to say, I leave and bequeath unto the Reverend Stephen Harrison the sum of
four thousand pounds. I leave and bequeath unto David Harrison the sum of
four thousand pounds.
I leave and bequeath unto Maria Harrison the sum of three thousand pounds.
I leave and bequeath unto Theodosia Harrison the sum of three thousand
pounds.
I give and bequeath unto Miss Catharine Nichols who lives with me the sum of
one thousand pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath half of my house furniture and house linen with my
wearing apparel to the said Catharine Nichols and the other half of such
house furniture and house line with my pictures I leave and bequeath to the
said Maria Harrison and Theodosia Harrison.
I leave and bequeath unto my cousin Richard Gelling of the town of Douglas
the sum of two hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto Nessy Gelling wife of the said Richard Gelling
the sum of two hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my cousin Catharine Wilks of the town of Douglas
the sum of two hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto Mrs Ellen Gelling of Douglas relict of James
Gelling deceased the sum of two hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto Miss Isabella Gelling my cousin the sum of three
hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto Mrs Eliza Mouton of Castletown my cousin the sum
of three hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my godchild Frank Cubbon Rogers the sum of one
hundred pounds as legacy
I leave and bequeath unto my godson Mark Cubbon Rimmer the sum of one
hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my goddaughter Alicia Cornelia Hican the sum of
one hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my goddaughter Catharine Heard Wild the sum of one
hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my said nieces Maria Harrison and Theodosia
Harrison all my plate, bills, bonds, and securities not hereinbefore
otherwise disposed of equally between them.
I leave and bequeath to the trustees of the Mysore Cottages Ramsey the sum
of one hundred pounds to be laid out by them at interest on good and
sufficient real security a sufficient portion of the yearly interest arising
therefrom to be applied in the first instance in the repairs of the said
cottages and the remainder of such yearly interest to be then paid over by
the said trustees to the occupants of the said cottages in such proportions
for their own use as the said trustees may deem fit.
I leave and bequeath to my servant Margaret Benson if she continues in my
service to the time of my decease and annuity of fifteen pounds yearly to be
paid to her own receipt.
I leave devise and bequeath unto the said Stephen Harrison his heirs and
assigns the whole of my houses and lands situate in the parish of Maughold
save and except my share in Cornale Mill and its appurtenaments.
I leave devise and bequeath unto my executors hereinafter named my share in
Cornale Mill aforesaid with the appurtenances to the same belonging in trust
to be by them sold to the best advantage and the proceeds thereof to be paid
Maria Harrison and Theodosia Harrison share and share alike.
I leave and bequeath unto my servant Ann Cannell if she remains with me to
the time of my death the sum of twenty pounds as legacy.
In grateful remembrance of my cousin Mark Corlett in attention to me and my
affairs I bequeath him a diamond ring containing the hair of both my father
and mother and sworn by my brother Mark.
and for as much as I may probably leave some further bequests and should I
do so I hereby declare that the same together with the annuity hereinbefore
bequeathed to Margaret Bridson shall be paid out of the residue of my estate
and it it be insufficient to yeild the required amount then I order and
direct that any deficiency shall be made up out of the legacies which I have
hereinbefore bequeathed to the wife and children of Mark Cubbon Rimmer and
the children of the Reverend Bowyer Harrison and Theodosia his wife and
subject to the conditions aforesaid. I leave and bequeath the residue and
remainder of my goods (save as aforesaid) and chattels rights credits and
personal estate of any discription unto the said Maria Harrison and
Theodosia Harrison share and share alike between them and should the said
Maria Harrison or Theodosia Harrison depart this life leaving issue her
surviving and without having received payment of her said legacy or her
share of the residue of my estate or her share of the proceeds of the
Cornals Mill and its appurtenances the same shall be payable unto such issue
share and share alike and if there be but one child then unto such child.
I nominate constitute and appoint the said Stephan Harrison and Richard
Gelling executors of this my last will and testament revoking hereby all
former will or wills by me made and executed and declaring this to be my
last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this fifteenth day of

This is a codicil to the last will and testament of Elizabeth Cubbon of
Albion Terrace in the parish of Lezayre and town of Ramsey dated the
fifteenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine and to
be deemed and taken as part of such last will.
Whereas the said Elizabeth Cubbon the testatrix has in and by her said last
will and testament left and bequeathed certain pecuniary legacies and other
sums of money and other personal property goods and effects therein
mentioned unto Maria Harrison and Theodosia Harrison daughters of the Rev
Bowyer Harrison of the parish of Maughold and Theodosia his late wife and
whereas the said testatrix Elizabeth Cubbon is desirous to alter her said
will and to deprive the said Maria Harrison and Theodosia Harrsion of all or
any power or control of and over the said several properties and to appoint
trustees namely the Rev Stephen Harrison and Richard Gelling of Douglas
Esquire to manage the same in manner hereinafter mentioned for an in behalf
of the said Maria Harrison and Theodosia Harrison and any free from the
control also of any husband or husbands they or either of them may
hereafter have and they the said Stephan Harrison and Richard Gelling are
hereby appointed trustees in the premises accordingly by the said testatrix
Elizabeth Cubbon for and in behalf of the said Maria Harrison and Theodosia
Harrison and the said testatrix Elizabeth Cubbon doth hereby order and
direct that they the said trustees shall and will upon her death lay out at
interest upon good and sufficient real security in their own names as
trustees all and singular the said pecuniary legacies and other monies
including the proceeds of the sale of one fourth part of Cornale Mill and
its appurtenances in Maughold and the interest arising therefrom from time
to time to pay over to the said Maria Harrison and Theodosia Harrison share
and share alike between them and their receipts alone to be sufficient
discharge for the same.
And she the said testatrix Elizabeth Cubbon doth hereby direct and declare
that this codicil shall in no further respects alter vary or revoke the
prevision of her said last will and testament as affects the said several
properties hereinbefore conveyed to the said trustees but that the same
doth hereby continue and remain unaltered and in full force and virtue the
same as the remainder of such her last will and testament. Witness her
subscription this fifteenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and
sixty nine.
