This is the last will and testament of me John Cowley of the parish of
Lezayre made declared and published this the 31st day of July 1871.
I commend my soul to God and my body to Christian burial.
I leave and bequeath to my beloved wife Ann Cowley all and singular my
real and personal estate of whatever nature denomination or description for
and during the term of her natural life.
I leave and devise to my son Robert Edward Cowley the whole of that and
those lands houses and premises to me belonging situate on the
southside of the River near Sulby Bridges being intack land formerly
belonging to the Kella estate bounded by the River on the North, part of
the "Close Moar" on the West, part of the property called Ginger Hall on
the South and the High Road on the East to have and to hold the same to my
son Robert Edward aforesaid his and assigns subject to the payment of the
sum of three hundred and fifty pounds to his sister Margaret wife of John
Kinrade of Liverpool payable upon the death of her mother to
whom I leave the said property during the term of her natural life and
this my will that the said sum of three hundred and fifty pounds to be
paid by my son Robert Edward to my daughter Margaret Kinrade shall be for
her own sole, separate, and exclusive use, and at her own disposal without
being under the control or at the disposal of her husband or any future
husband she may have nor be subject or liable for such husbands debts
notwithstanding coverture.
I leave and devise the whole of that property consisting of lands and houses
and premises situated near the Kella Mill as the same lies on the North side
of the High Road formerly part of the Kella to my son John Henry Cowley To
Have and to hold the same to him and his heirs and assigns subject to the
payment of the sum of two hundred pounds to aforesaid daughter Margaret wife
of John Kinrade upon the death of her mother as aforesaid the same, or the
said sum of two hundred pounds to be for her own use as stated in respect of
the aforesaid sum of three hundred and fifty pounds.
I leave and devise to my daughter Ann Eliza Cowley that and those lands
to me belonging situated in the parish of Lezayre, one part thereof being
called Currah ne Mona purchased from the two sons and daughter of John
Kissack Ballakissack of KK Santon also that parcel of Abbey land lying above
Ballamanagh called
Croit Frank" also that parcel of intack land called "Close Cranstyl"
formerly the property of John Caley of the "Well" and it is my will that
the said lands and premises and every part hereof shall be for the sole,
separate and exclusive use of my aforesaid daughter Ann Eliza and to be at
her own disposal notwithstanding coverture, and that the same is not
to be under the control of any husband she may marry, nor liable to be
sold for any debts which such husband may contract, and it is my will
that in the event of either of my aforesaid children dying before possession
the property left to them as aforesaid without issue that my wife Ann
aforesaid shall have the power to leave and devise the share of such child
so dying to any of the surviving children as she may think
proper.
I leave and devise my land of inheritance part of the Cooilbane in the
parish of Lezayre and that small meadow purchased from Thomas Taubman
deceased to my eldest son and heir at law and in case of his death before
his mother without issue she to dispose of the same as she may think proper.
I nominate constitute and appoint my aforesaid wife Ann Cowley whole
and sole executrix and residuary legatee of all my goods, chattels, and
effects of what kind or nature soever.
In witness whereof I subscribe my name hereto as and for my last will
and testament the day month and year first above written. John Cowley
