19 Lezayre
In the name of God Amen.
I Robert Quayle of the Creig Moar in the parish of Kirk Christ Lezayre
calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life do proceed, make, and
publish this my last will and testament in manner following:
First I commit my soul to God and my body to a Christian burial.
Secondly - I leave and bequeath unto my brother in law James Kneale of
the Sharragh Vand the sum of three pounds.
Thirdly - I leave and bequeath unto my nephews and nieces the children
of the said James Kneale and my sister Jane, the sum of ten pounds to be
equally divided between them share and share alike.
Fourthly I leave and bequeath unto my brother John the sum of twelve pounds
as legacy.
Fifthly I leave and bequeath unto my brother Thomas the sum of twenty four
pounds as legacy.
Sixthly - I leave and bequeath unto my mother the yearly sum of one
pound for and during her natural life time.
Seventhly - I leave and bequeath unto my sister Mary Ann my watch.
Lastly I nominate, constitute, ordain, and appoint my two brothers
namely William and James and my sister Mary Ann my whole and sole executors
and residuary legatees of all and singular the rest and remainder of my
goods, chattels, invoices, credits, and effects of whatever kind nature or
description whatsoever or where soever and also my real estate. In
testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my
name or mark to my name this the twenty second day of October One thousand
Eight Hundred and Seventy three 1873.

At a Chapter Court held at Ramsey on the 1st day of May 1874.
Edward Henry Quayle and William Teare the subscribing witnesses to the
execution of the foregoing paper writing purporting to be the last will
and testament of Robert Quayle late of the Craig Moar in the parish of
Kirk Christ Lezayre, deceased, having made oath on the Holy Evangelists that
the said testator Robert Quayle when of sound and disposing mind, memory and
understanding duly signed and acknowledged the same as and for his last will
and testament in their presence and that they at the
same time in the presence of the said testator and of each other subscribed
the same in attestation thereof.
and James Quayle and Mary Ann Quayle the brother and sister of the testator
two of the executors in said will named having by instrument in writing
dated the 30th day of April 1874 ( and herewith deposited on record)
respectively renounced the said executorship. William Quayle
the brother of the deceased the other executor in said will also named is
therefore sworn well and truly to fulfil and execute the said will and to
administer all and singular the personal estate and effects of the said
deceased according to law by paying the just debts and funeral expenses of
the said deceased and the legacies contained in his said will so far
forth as his estate and effects will thereto extend and the law bind him.
And to return to the Archdeacon's Registry of the Isle of Man a full true
and perfect inventory of all and singular the said estate and effects with
an accurate account of his administration thereof when thereunto
lawfully required. And to these ends he hath given pledges namely
Thomas Kneale of Ramsey in the parish of Maughold and William Teare of the
Village in the parish of Ballaugh who have entered into and executed the
usual bond in the presence of the court.

Know all men by these presents that James Kneale administrator of John
Thomas Kneale deceased doth hereby own and acknowledge to have received and
to have been fully paid and satisfied by and from the hands
of William Quayle executor of Robert Quayle late of the Craig Moar in the
parish of Lezayre deceased the sum of one pound fifteen shillings and three
pence(being the proportion of the legacy of ten pounds bequeathed by the
will of the said Robert Quayle to the children of the said James Kneale of
whom the said John Thomas Kneale is one) and interest thereon from the 29th
day of November 1874 to the 28th day of February 1885 - and the said James
Kneale as administrator as aforesaid of the said
John Thomas Kneale doth release acquit and discharge the said William Quayle
executor as appointed and the estate of the said Robert Quayle from all
claim or demand whatsoever for and in respect of the purportion of this said
legacy so payable to the said John Thomas Kneale as
appointed and all interest thereon and doth hereby direct that the same
shall stand cancelled upon record.

Whereas Robert Quayle of the Craig Moar in the parish of Kirk Christ Lezayre
did by his last will and testament dated the 22nd day of October 1873 leave
and bequeath to his nephews and nieces the children of his brother in law
James Kneale and his sister Jane the sum of ten pounds to be equally divided
amongst them share and share alike as by said will
with probate duly granted thereon doth appear.
Know ye all men therefore by these presents that Edward Henry Kneale one of
the children of the said James Kneale and Jane Kneale who some time since
has attained the age of twenty one years do hereby own and acknowledged to
have received from William Quayle executor of the said Robert Quayle the
full sum of one pound and five shillings with all
interest due and owing hereon being his share or portion of the said ten
pounds bequeathed to him in and by the last will and testament of the
said Robert Quayle of the Creig Moar in the parish of Lezayre deceased
and dated the 22nd day of October 1873 as aforesaid and the said Edward
Henry Kneale do hereby further order and direct the said legacy so far forth
as he is concerned to be and stand cancelled on record. As witness his
name or mark to his name hereto subscribed this the 13th day of November One
thousand eight hundred and eighty eight 1888. Edward H. Kneale

Catherine Sophia Kneale received 1 May 1884 her legacy and ask that it also
be cancelled on record.
At Ramsey 1 May 1884.
William Teare the subscribing witness to the before written instrument
personally appeared before me and made oath that Catherine Sophia
Kneale the executing party thereto duly signed and executed the same in his
presence. John LaMothe High Bailiff of Ramsey.
Robert Kneale rec'd One pound and five shillings with all interest now
due and owing thereon being the full share or portion due to him of the
said ten pounds bequeathed by the said late Robert Quayle to the children of
the said James Kneale and his sister Jane in and by his last will and
testament dated the twenty second day of October one thousand eight hundred
and seventy three as aforesaid and the said Robert Kneale doth hereby order
and direct the said legacy so far forth as he is concerned to be and stand
cancelled on record as witness his name or mark to his
name thereto subscribed this the twentieth day of March one thousand eight
hundred and eighty six 1886.

Elizabeth Margaret Kneale one of the daughters of the said James Kneale and
Jane Kneale did on the 31st day of October 1874 intermarry with William
Gelling of the parish of Lezayre Farm Labourer as by certificate
of marriage doth appear. Rec'd one pound and five shilling with all
interest now due and owing thereon being the proportion and share of the
said ten pounds bequeathed by the said Robert to the children of the said
James Kneale and his sister Jane as aforesaid in and by the last will and
testament of the said Robert Quayle and bearing date the 22nd day of October
1873 as aforesaid and the said William Gelling and Elizabeth Margaret
Gelling formerly Kneale his wife do hereby order and direct the said legacy
as far forth they are concerned to be and stand cancelled on record as
witness their names or mark to their names this the 16th day
of June 1876.

9 July 1881 Douglas. Wm Teare the witness to the foregoing deed who is known
to me made oath that William Gelling and Elizabeth Gelling the
parties thereto duly executed the same after it has been read over to them
in his presence.
Mary Ann Kneale acknowledged to have rec'd one pound and five shillings with
all interest due thereon being her proportion and share of the said
ten pounds bequeathed by the said Robert Quayle. Mary Ann Kneale ordered
and directed the said legacy so far as she is concerned to be and and
cancelled on record as witness her name or mark to her name hereunto
subscribed this the 16th day of April 1879.

Whereas Robert Quayle late of the Creig Moar in the parish of Kirk Christ
Lezayre deceased did by his last will and testament bearing date the
22nd day of October 1873 nominate, constitute, ordain, and appoint his two
brothers namely William and James and his sister Mary Ann his
whole and sole executors.
And whereas by a certain instrument in writing dated the 30th day of
April 1874 (and with the said will deposited on record) the said James
Quayle and Mary Ann Quayle two of the executors named in the said will
respectively renounced the said executorship probate of the said will
was therefore at a Chapter Court held in Ramsey on he 1st day of May 1874
duly granted unto William Quayle the other executor named therein. And
whereas amongst other matters contained in the said will the sum
of three pounds was bequeath unto his brother in law James Kneale of the
Sharragh Vand. The sum of twelve pounds to his brother John. The sum of
twenty four pounds to his brother Thomas and the sum of ten pounds to his
nephews and nieces the children of the aforesaid James Kneale and Jane his
wife the said sum of ten pounds to be equally divided between them share and
share alike as by said will doth appear.
Know all men therefore by these presents that the said James Kneale, John
Quayle, Thomas Quayle and James Kneale and Ann Kneale two of the children
of the aforesaid James Kneale and Jane his wife do hereby respectively own
and acknowledge to have received from the said
William Quayle executor of the said Robert Quayle the full amount of
their respective legacies bequeathed to them in and by the last will and
testament of the said Robert Quayle deceased and dated the 22nd day of
October 1873 as aforesaid namely three pounds to the said James
Kneale, twelve pounds to the said John Quayle, twenty four pounds to the
said Thomas Quayle and one pound and five shillings each to the said
James Kneale, Junior, and Ann Kneale said sum of one pound and five
shillings being the shares due to each of the children of the aforesaid
James Kneale and Jane his wife. And the said James Kneale, John Quayle,
Thomas Quayle and the said James Kneale, Junior, Ann Kneale do hereby
respectively order and direct the said legacies in the said will to be and
stand cancelled on record as witness their respective names or mark to their
respective name hereunto subscribed this the 23rd day of November 1874.

William Teare who is personally known to me made oath in the Holy Evangelist
that James Kneale, John Quayle, Thos Quayle, James Kneale, junior, and Ann
Kneale severally executed the going instrument in his presence and in the
presence of Jane Teare another witnesses.
In the matter of the last will and testament of Robert Quayle late of the
Creig Moars in the parish of Kirk Christ Lezayre deceased and which will
bears date the 22nd day of October 1873.
We the undersigned James Quayle and Mary Ann Quayle two of the executors
appointed and named in the said will do hereby renounce the said
executorship and agree that William Quayle the other executor
therein named shall be sworn as sole executor of the said will. As
witness our names or marks to our names thereunto subscribed this the
thirtieth day of April 1874.
