This is the last will and testament of me Betsey Qualtrough of the town
of Peel widow made this day of January one thousand eight hundred and
seventy two.
I leave and bequeath to my niece Mary Anne Stowell of Ramsey my gold watch
and to my niece Elizabeth Stowell of the same place my gold
chain, black cameo brooch, and workbox.
I leave and bequeath to my nieces Louisa Stowell, Teresa Stowell,
Nessey Stowell and Amelia Stowell of Peel equally between them the
whole of the goods household furniture and other effects belonging to me and
now in the house occupied by my brother the Revd John LaMothe Stowell of
Peel and which goods and furniture or the greater part of
them are marked or ticketed with the letter "2" together with the plate
belonging to me and  marked with the letters "R.E. L"
I give and bequeath to James Gell Esquire Attorney General of this island
the residue and remainder of my personal estate of every description.  In
trust for the purposes herein after declared of and concerning the same.
Whereas by Deed bearing date on or about the 19th March 1859 I sold and
conveyed to the said James Gell a certain estate in the parish of Lezayre
called the Garey and a dwelling house in the parish of Malew In Trust
amongst other things to assure and convey the same to such person or persons
or to dispose of the same for such purpose or purposes and subject to such
directions restrictions limitations and conditions as I
might by deed or will direct and appoint.  And whereas I am desirous that my
real and personal estate should be held upon  the like trusts now I the said
Betsey Qualtrough do direct and appoint that the said James Gell or other
the trustee or trustees of the time being under the said deed shall stand
possessed of the real estate  thereby conveyed and of my said personal
estate hereby devised In Trust for the following purposes, that
is to say.  As soon after my decease as conveniently may be to sell and
dispose of the said real estate by public auction and convert the said
personal estate into cash, and after payment of my  debts and funeral
and testamentary expenses In Trust to pay out of the said  process unto my
late husbands two nieces Elizabeth Graves wife of Robert Graves and Ann Jane
Clucas wife of Joseph Clucas both of Peel the sum of five
pounds each.  And in further trust to divide the residue of the proceeds
of such real and of such personal estate equally amongst such of the
daughters of my brotheršs Thomas Stowell and John LaMothe Stowell as may be
living and unmarried at the time of my decease.
And it is declared hereby that no trustee hereunder shall at any time be
liable or responsible for the failure of any Banker or Broker with whom
any of the trust properties or moneys may be deposited or for any
unavoidable loss or from any things except his own willful default.
And further that such trustee may reimburse himself (in the first instance)
out of the trust moneys for all charges and expenses incurred by him in the
management of the trust property including in fair and reasonable charges
for agency and for law business transacted on behalf of the trust estate by
such trustee.
And I further declare that the receipt of any of the female legatees
under this my will shall be a good and sufficient
discharge(notwithstanding coverture) for the legatees respectively.
And I nominate and appoint the said James Gell executor of this my will.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name the day month
and year before written.
