The humble petition of
Margaret Ann Hampton of
The town of Ramsey widow
Sheweth
That your petitioners late husband
John Hampton of the said town printer and
Bookseller departed this life on or about the third
Day of August instant having first duly made
And published his last will and testament
In writing whereof he appointed your petitioner
Sole executrix.
That it is necessary that probate of te said
Will should be granted to your petitioner.
Wherefore your pet’r humbly prays
A hearing hereof and that your
Worship may be pleased to grant
Probate of the said Will to
Your pet’r.
And pet’r will pray

Ordered that this petition do come to be heard at a special Ecclesiastical
Court to be held at Douglas on Tuesday the 21st day of
August 1878 at 12 o’clock noon. Whereof all proper
Parties and persons are to have due and lawful notice.
Given at Douglas this 23rd day of August 1878.
This is the last Will and
Testament of me John Hampton
Of the town of Ramsey in the
Isle of Man Printer and Bookseller.
I give and bequeath unto my
Eldest son John Hugh Tear Hampton
The sum of Two Hundred and fifty
Pounds which said sum is to
Be paid to him on his attaining
The age of twenty one years and
In the event of his dying under
the age of Twenty one years I
give and bequeath the said sum
of two hundred and fifty pounds
to my daughter Isabella Jane
Hampton if she survive my said son.
I give and bequeath unto my
Said daughter Isabella Jane
Hampton the sum of two hundred
Pound which said sum is to
be paid to her on her attaining
the age of Twenty one years and
in the event of her dying under
the said age of twenty one years
I give and bequeath the said
sum of Two hundred pounds
Unto my said son John Hugh
Teare Hampton if he survive
My said daughter Isabella Jane
Hampton. And in the event
Of both of them the said John
Hugh Teare Hampton and the
Said Isabella Jane Hampton
Dying under the age of twenty
One years I give and bequeath
The said sums of Two hundred
and fifty pounds and two
Hundred pounds unt my
Residuary legatee hereinafter
Named.
I give and bequeath unto
My sister Catherine Hampton
At present residing at the
Lhen Moar the sum of Twenty
Pounds to be paid to her as soon
As convenient after my decease
And in the event of her dying
Previous to my decease I give
And bequeath the said sum
Of twenty pounds to my
Residaury legatee.
I give and devise unto my
Dearly beloved wife Margaret
Ann Hampton formerly Kinvig
All and singular all my real
Estate of whatsoever nature and
Wheresoever situate to hold to
her her heirs and assigns and
I give and bequeath unto
My said wife allthe rest
Residue and remainder of my
Personal estate, books, book debts
Moneys, stocks, investments of what
Nature or kind soever in trust
That she will educate and bring
Up respectably my three children
Gertrude Kinvig Hampton, Percy
William Hampton and Leslie
Bertram Hampton until they
Respectively attain the age of
Twenty one years___ And I nominate
And appoint my said wife
Margaret Ann Hampton sole
Executrix and residuary legatee
Of this my last will and
Testament In Witness whereof
I have hereunto subscribed my
Name this nineteenth day of July

Held at Douglas on the 21st day of August 1878.
William Crennell on of the subscribing witnesses to
The execution of the foregoing paper writing purporting
To be the last Will and Testament of John
Hampton late of the town of Ramsey in the
Isle of Man, Printer and bookseller, deceased.
Who died on or about the 3rd day of August
1878_ having made oath on the Holy Evangelists
that said testator John Hampton when of sound
and disposing mind memory and understanding
duly signed and acknowledged the same as
and for his last Will and Testament in his
presence and at the same time in the presence
of John Craine the other subscribing witness
to such execution and that they at the same
time in the presence of the said testator and of
each other subscribed the same in attestation
thereof. Margaret Ann Hampton, Widow the
relict of the said deceased the Executrix
in said Will named is therefore sworn well
and truly to fulfil and execute said Will and
administer all and singular the personal estate
and effects of the said decedent according to Law.
By paying the just debts funeral and testamentary
Expenses of the said deceased and the legacies
Contained in his said Will so far forth as his estate
And effects will thereto extend and the Law bind her
And to return the the Episcopal Registry of this diocese
Of Sodor and Mann a full true and perfect
Inventory of all singular the said estate and
Effets with an accurate account of her
Administration thereof when thereunto lawfully
Required. And to these ends she hath given pledges
Namely John Gale of Strand Hall in the parish
Of Rushen and John Kinvig of Castletown
In the parish of Malew who have entered
into and executed the usual bond in the presence
Of the court. Probatum Est
D. Gebb
