In the name of God, Amen. I SAMUEL TAGGART of the Parish of 
Santon being of sound and disposing mind memory and 
understanding at the making and executing hereof do make 
and publish this paper writing as and for my Last Will 
and Testament in manner following, that is to say: 
First I leave devise and bequeath unto my WIFE CATHERINE 
the sum of fifty pounds sterling, a feather bed and bedding 
and her own chest. 
Also I leave, devise and bequeath unto my SON JAMES  
the clock, stock and crop.  
Also I leave devise and bequeath unto my SON HENRY  
all my wearing apparel.  
And as to the rest and residue of my household furniture 
I leave and bequeath the one half to my WIFE CATHERINE 
during her life and the other half I leave and bequeath 
to my SONS JAMES AND HENRY, the said furniture to be 
divided by two persons one chosen by my WIFE CATHERINE 
and one by my son or sons. And as to the half of the 
household furniture possessed by my WIFE CATHERINE 
during her life which she may have at her decease 
(allowing for wear) I give and bequeath to my SONS 
JAMES AND HENRY.  
And as to all other the personal estate and effects 
whatsoever and wheresoever of which I shall be possessed 
at the time of my decease I bequeath the same and every 
part thereof unto my SON JAMES TAGGART, and I nominate 
constitute and appoint the said JAMES TAGGART (if he be 
on the Island) Executor of this my Will and Testament.  
And in case the said JAMES TAGGART be not on the Island, 
then and in that case I nominate constitute and appoint 
JANE TAGGART WIFE OF THE SAID JAMES TAGGART Executrix 
of this my Will and Testament hereby revoking all former 
Wills or will by me at any time heretofore made. 
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name 
this thirty first day of May one thousand eight hundred 
and seventy two 1872.

SIGNED PUBLISHED AND DECLARED by the said Testator as 
and for his last Will and Testament in our presence who 
in his presence and in presence of each other have 
hereunto subscribed our names as Witnesses.

AT A CHAPTER COURT HELD AT Castletown on 
the 17 day of October 1879
xxxx xxxx and xxxx: Thomas Gick and Edward Costain the 
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx SAMUEL TAGGART late of Ballacurry in the 
parish of Santon the Testator who died on the 5 day of July 1879 
xxxxxxxxxx. Thomas Gick of Ballavale, Edward Costain of Ballakissack

KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS that CATHERINE TAGGART of 
the parish of Santon, WIDOW, doth hereby own and acknowledge 
to have received from JAMES TAGGART, of the town of Douglas, 
Executor of the will of SAMUEL TAGGART, late of the same 
parish of Santon, deceased, the sum of fifty pounds sterling, 
a feather bed and bedding and her own chest, bequeathed to 
the said CATHERINE TAGGART by the said Will dated the 31st 
day of May 1872, and duly proved at an Ecclesiastical Court 
held at Castletown on the 17th day of October 1879.  
And the said CATHERINE TAGGART doth hereby desire and direct 
that the said bequest be and stand cancelled on record. 
As witness her name this thirteenth day of March one thousand 
eight hundred and eighty.
