Malew         The humble petition of Thomas Collister   
1883          of Tosaby in the Parish of
39            Malew and Mary Jane his wife

Sheweth
            That Ann Bridson of Tosaby aforesaid
mother of your petitioner Mary Jane Collister 
departed this life on the 20th day of April 
1883 having first made and published her 
last Will and Testament dated the 8th day of 
March 1877 whereof she appoints your petitioner 
Mary Jane Collister Executrix
             That it is necessary that the said will 
should be proved
              That the next of kin of the said deceased 
resident in this island are William Bridson of 
Ballaoates in the Parish of German Catherine 
wife of John Craine of Kenaa in the said Parish 
John Bridson of the Earey in the parish of Malew 
and Sarah wife of John Fargher of Kionsliew in the 
Parish of Patrick
                 Wherefore your petitioners humbly
                 pray a hearing hereof and that probate
of the said will may be granted to your
petitioner Thomas Collister in right of the
said wife or to some other 
person and your petitioner will pray….

This is the last Will and Testament of me
Ann Bridson of Tosaby in the parish of 
Malew, Widow. I being of sound disposing
mind memory and understanding at
the time of making hereof do make
publish and declare this my last Will in
manner and form following, and revoke
every former Will made by me

.
1st  I leave and bequeath to my Son William
      Bridson the sum of three pounds sterling

2nd  I leave and bequeath to my Son John
      Bridson the sum of three pounds sterling

3rd  I leave and bequeath to my Son daughter
      Catherine Craine the sum of three pounds sterling

4th  I leave and bequeath to my daughter Sarah
      Fargher the sum of three pounds sterling

5th  I leave and bequeath to my daughter
       Eliza Smith the sum of two shillings
       and six pence

6th  I leave and bequeath to my daughter Esther 
      Clarke the sum of two shillings and six pence 

7th  I leave and bequeath to my Son 
        in law Patrick Levitt (?Devitt) the Sum 
        of two shillings and six pence

8th I leave and bequeath to my 
       granndson John Joseph Kelly
       the sum of three pounds sterling

Lastly I leave my daughter Mary Bridson
my Sole Executrix of all my property and
all that belongs to me and of this my
last Will and Testament. In Witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and seal this the Eighth day of March
one Thousand Eight hundred and
seventy seven

                               At an Ecclesiastical Court held at
                               Castletown on the 25th day of May 1883
William Cretney and Thomas Shimmin the
Subscribing witnesses to the execution of the 
foregoing paper writing purporting to be the 
last Will and Testament of Ann Bridson 
late of Tosaby in the Parish of Malew, Widow 
deceased who died on or about the 20th day of 
April 1883 having made Oath on the Holy Evangelists that said testator 
…etc

Thomas Cretney of Tosaby and Thomas Shimmin of Rhenshant
Ann Bridson when of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding duly signed 
and acknowledged the same as and for her last Will and Testament in their presence, and 
that they at the same time in presence of each other subscribed the same **** attestation 
thereof. Thomas Collister husband of Mary Jane Collister (in the will written "Mary" 
only) formerly Bridson a daughter of the said deceased the Executrix named in the said 
will and in right of his said Wife is therefore sworn well and truly to fulfil and execute 
the said will and to administer all and singular the personal estate and effects of the said 
deceased according to Law by paying the just debts funeral and testamentary expenses of 
the said deceased and the legacies contained in the said will so far forth as her estate and 
effects will thereto extend and the law bind him and to return to the Diocesan Registry of 
this Diocese a full true and perfect inventory of all and singular the said estate and effects 
with an accurate account of his administration thereof when thereunto lawfully required 
And to these ends he hath given Pledges Namely William Cretney of Tosaby in the 
Parish of Malew and Thomas Shimmin of Rhenshant in the said parish of Malew who 
have entered into and executed the usual bond in the presence of this Court
                                                 Probatum Est


Know all men by these presents that William Bridson of the Parish of Patrick and John 
Fargher of the parish of Patrick and Sarah Fargher his wife do hereby acknowledge to 
have received from Thomas Collister executor of the last Will and Testament of Ann 
Bridson late of Tosaby in the Parish of Malew the sum of Six pounds being the Amount 
of two several legacies of three pounds each bequeathed to the said William Bridson and 
Sarah Fargher in and by the will of the said Ann Bridson Dated 8th day of March 1877 
and duly proved on the 25 day of May 1883 And the said William Bridson and John 
Fargher and Sarah his wife  ***** acquit and discharge the said Thomas Collister 
executor as aforesaid and the estate of the said ann Bridson from all claims in respect of 
the said two legacies and

Be & stand cancelled upon **** Witness their names this 5th April 1884

Received from Thomas Collister executor of the late Ann Bridson (widow) of Tosaby in 
Parish of Malew the sum of three pounds being the amount of legacy due under the will 
of the said Ann Bridson to her daughter Cathrine Crane
