German 1886 171 This is the last will and testament of me, Philip Cowley of the Rheast in the parish of German, farmer, Isle of Man, owner of a certain dwelling house and premises situate in the town of Peel, the said house being in Douglas Street, and at present in the occupation of Henry Corris, and of a certain parcel of land situate in the parish of German and known by the name part of Ballaterson. I hereby appoint my wife Christian Cowley to be sole executrix of pay all just debts and claims and for the due administration of all my real and personal estate, as follows, that is to say: I give and bequeath to my wife Christian Cowley aforesaid the whole of my real and personal estate for the term of her natural life subject to the proviso hereinafter mentioned. I give and bequeath to my daughter Christian Annie Cowley the house in Douglas Street above mentioned, and the lands in the parish of German "part of Ballaterson" above mentioned together with the sum of fifty pounds sterling as a legacy. I give and bequeath to my other children Philip Richard Cowley, Robert John Cowley, Catherine Eleanor Cowley and Eva Margaret Cowley the residue of all my effects, after the payment of the aforesaid legacy to my daughter Christian Annie Cowley the said residue to be equally divided between the said Philip Richard Cowley, Robert John Cowley, Catherine Eleanor Cowley, and Eva Margaret Cowley. Provided always that should the aforesaid Christian Cowley the executrix appointed under this will contract another marriage the whole of my estate real and personal shall at once upon such marriage revert to my children for their sole and exclusive benefit to be apportioned to them in the manner above mentioned and the said Christian Cowley shall forfeit any and all claims to my estate real and personal. As witness my signature this the first day of January one thousand eight hundred and eighty five. Philip Cowley Witnesses: Henry Corris William Callister. 8 Nov 1886 - Christian Cowley of Rheast widow and relict sworn executrix who did not fully administer the will because she died. The court then decreed Christian Annie Cowley daughter and spinster of the testator sworn to administer the unadministered portion of Philip Cowley's will. At a Deemsters Court held at Peel the 10th day of October 1892. Christian Annie Cowley was appointed administratrix of the estate of her mother the late Christian Cowley widow Douglas Street Peel who departed this life on the twenty first day of August one thousand eight hundred and ninety two intestate. And the said Christian Annie Cowley at the same court held at Peel on the 10th of October 1892 was appointed to administer the estate and effects of the will dates January the first one thousand eight hundred and eighty five of her father Philip Cowley of the Rheast in the parish of German who departed this life on the ninth day of July one thousand eight hundred and eight six. And whereas Philip Richard Cowley is entitled to a legacy of two hundred and seventy four pounds under his father's will Philip Cowley and to the sum of sixteen pounds as one of the next of kin of his mother Christian Cowley deceased and the said Christian Annie Cowley having paid to Philip Richard Cowley the amount of such legacy and payment of the distributive share of the estate of the said Christian Cowley. Know all men by these presents that the said Philip Richard Cowley do acknowledge to have received in full from Christian Annie Cowley the amount of his legacy under the will of his father Philip Cowley and distributive share of the estat eof Christian Cowley. This the said Philip Richard Cowley has been paid the sum of two hundred and ninety pounds the aggregate amount of such legacy and distributive share of his deceased mother's estate and the said Philip Richard Cowley relinguished all further claim and demand under the will of the said Philip Cowley and out of the estate of the late Christian Cowley and do direct that the said legacy and share be crossed and cancelled on record As witness my name this the sixteenth of November one thousand eight hundred and ninety five. At a District Probate Session holden at Peel on the 8th day of November
1886.
The annexed paper writing dated the 1st day of January 1885 having been
proved to be the last will and testament of Philip Cowley late of the
Rheast in the parish of German Farmer deceased who died on the 9th day of
July 1886. Christian Cowley of the Rheast aforesaid widow the relict
of the testator the executrix therein named is sworn well and truly to
fulfil and execute the same and to administer the personal estate and
effects of the said deceased according to law.

At a Court held at Peel the 10th day of October 1892 Christian Annie
wife of John Henry Kelly Joiner Peel was appointed to administer the
estate and effects under the will of her father the late Philip Cowley of
the Rheast in he parish of German who departed this life on the 9th day
of July 1886.
And whereas Catherine Eleanor Cowley is entitled to the sum of two hundred
and seventy four sterling under the will of her father Philip
Cowley deceased, and Christian Annie wife of John Henry Kelly having
paid to the said Catherine Eleanor Cowley the sum of two hundred and seventy
four pounds sterling the amount due to her out of the estate of her father
the late Philp Cowley.
Know all men by these presents that the said Catherine Eleanor Cowley
do acknowledge to have received in full from Christian Annie wife of
John Henry Kelly the sum of two hundred and seventy four pounds
sterling the amount due to her under the will of her father the late
Philip Cowley and the said Catherine Eleanor Cowley relinquished all
further claim and demand under the will of her father the late Philip
Cowley and do direct that the said estate be cancelled upon record. As
witness my name this the 8th day of September 1896.
