This the last will and testament of me Emily Catherine Quayle of Crogga Port
Soderick in the Isle of Man Widow.
I hereby revoke all wills and testamentary writings by me at any time
heretofore executed and declare this only to be my last will and testament.
I appoint my brother Eden Heywood Gawne and Jon Cæsar Bacon of Seafield in
the parish of Santon executors of this my will and I give and bequeath to
each of my said Executors who shall act in the trust this my will a legacy
of fifty pounds.
I direct my executors to pay so far as may be out of such standing to the
credit of my current account at my bankers all my debts funeral and
testamentary expenses as soon as conveniently may be after my decease and
the sum of Thirty pounds to the Reverend Richard Jones Vicar of Santon and
the balance of such cash to divide in equal shares between my sister Frances
Alicia, Mary Bonnor of Great Ness in the County of Salop and my niece Emily
May Mona Murray Gawne of Colby in the Isle of Man.
I give and bequeath to my brother in law Mark Hildesley Quayle of Queen
Anne's Mansions Westminster one half of my shares in the Isle of Man Banking
Company Limited and picture of Lady Moore the portraits of his father and
mother my silver wedding bowl given me by the Quayle Family and my silver
tea and coffee service given me by my father on my marriage.
I give and bequeath the remaining half of my shares in the said Isle of
Man Banking Company Limited to my sister in law Emily Quayle and my brothers
in law George Harrington Quayle - To my said niece Emily May Mona Murray
Gawne two of my shares in the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Limited all
my shares in the Snafell Mining Company the silver salver given by my
brother Richard Murray Gawne and my silver forks (large and small) and
spoons (large and small which I bought with my
own money before I was married not including tea spoons To my said brother
Richard Murray Gawne the two large arm chairs in the drawing room, the
drawing room sofa, the mirror in the dining with eagle on top
two silver muffineers and sugar or pepper castor the engraving of the Duke
and Stag and two silver goblets.
To my brother Henry Jepson Gawne my silver mustard pot, fish carvers and
silver butter knife.
To my said brother Eden Heywood Gawne all engraving except the said
engraving of the Duke and Stag the six engravings in the small sitting
room hereinafter bequeathed to my godchild Ewan Gawne son of my brother John
Moore Gawne my silver wedding present, a silver inkstand given me by my late
husband and a pair of high silver candlesticks as a rule kept on the silver
table in the drawing room.
To my niece Isalen Bonnor the painting of London from the Thames.
To the said George Harrington Quayle all other oil painting and water
colours and the six small engravings in the sitting room.
To my sister in law Sarah Catherine Quayle four silver salts and spoons
(with the blue glass lining) and the silver tea caddy which Mrs Newton
gave me.
To Mary Burns Lindow my opal ring made out of the pin which I gave my
late husband or our engagement
To the said Emily Quayle the little pin tray given me by Jeannie Hope and
Dutch silver chain and seals on the silver table.
To my sister in law Edith Tomlin my snake ring with the diamond head.
To Jane Jones at present in my service the small silver teapot given me
by the Ogdens.
To the said John Cæsar Bacon the four silver salts given me by my uncle
Bacon.
To Jane Leece for her faithful service both to my late husband and
myself in time of sickness my dozen silver teaspoons with crest on.
To my nephew Edward Brian Gawne the little sugar basin and cream jug
May gave me.
To Jean Hope my traveling clock.
To Ellen Faragher ten pounds and to Joseph Taubman at present in my employ
as coachman Ten pounds.
I bequeath to my said executors all my furniture, china, ornaments, mirrors,
clocks, carpets, books, trinkets, silver articles wearing apparel and all
other articles of personal domestic or household use or ornament whatsoever
not hereinbefore otherwise specifically bequeathed and also
all my carriages and carriage horses, harness saddlery, and stable furniture
upon trust to divide the said furniture, carriage horse, and carriages and
other effects as aforesaid among my sister the said Frances Alicia, Mary
Bonnor, Katherine Eliza Roscoe and Margaret Roscoe as nearly as may be in
equal shares. Provided always that if any on or
----- or the said Frances Alicia, Mary Bonnor, Katherine Eliza Roscoe and
Anne Margaret Roscoe shall so desire it shall be lawful for any of them
to sell her share as to when she shall think fit.
I desire my said executors before dividing such furniture and other personal
effects as aforesaid to set aside a bracelet or other small
trinket as they think fit to be given to my godchildren Katherine Emily
Roscoe and Rught Lindow and to my nieces Islen and Braida Ogden as a
remembrance of me and also to give to whoever of the Quayle family is
the owner at the time of my death of Bride House Castletown all the blue
china belong to the said Quayle family which may be in my possession at time
of my death.
I also desire that if any of horses aforesaid are that the time of death
worn out or old they may be shot and not sold that my horse "Squirrel" may
in any case be shot after my death.
I give devise and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my personal
estate and the whole of my real estate (including as well real
as personal estate over which I may have any general power of appointment or
disposition by will) to the said Mark Hildesley Quayle absolute if he
survive me and in case the said Mark Hildesley shall predecease me I devise
and the said real and person estate to the person who at the time of my
death shall be the heir at law of my late husband John Quayle. In witness
whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name
this twenty fifth day of February one thousand nine hundred and three. Emily

The annexed paper writing dated the 25th day of February 1903 having been
proved to be the last will and testament of Emily Catherine Quayle late of
Crogga Port Soderick in the parish of Santon widow deceased who died on the
21st day of July 1905 at Crogga aforesaid Edwin Heywood Gawne of the Borough
of Scarborough in the County of York Esquire and John Cæsar Bacon of
Seafield in the said parish of Santon Esquire the executor therein named are
sworn well and truly to fulfil and execute
the same and to administer the personal estate of the said deceased
according to law.

In the goods of Emily Catherine Quayle deceased.
I Katherine Eliza Roscoe being sworn on the Holy Evangelists make oath and
say as follows:
1. I am a sister of the said Emily Catherine Quayle (hereinafter called
the testatrix).
2. The testatrix died on the 21st day of July 1905 a widow without
issue and both her parents predeceased her.
3. The testatrix had five brothers viz Edward Gawne late of Kentraugh in
the Isle of Man, The Rev Richard Murray Gawne of Ashill Rectory Norfolk,
Henry Jephson Gawne resident in Canada, Eden Heywood Gawne of Scarborough
and John Moore Gawne late Colonel IV Kings Own Regiments and four sisters
viz:
Frances Alicia Mary Bonner wife of the Rev Robert Dempster Bonnor of Great
Ness Vicarage Shrewsbury, Isalen Jane Ogden wife of Lyndhurst Ogden of
Toronto Canada, Katherine Eliza Roscoe wife of Edward S.
Roscoe Admiralty Registrar and Annie Margaret Roscoe wife of William Cecil
Roscoe of Tilstock Lodge Whitechurch Salop.
4. The said Edward Gawne predeceased the testatrix leaving three
children who surivive the testatrix namely Emily May Mona Murray Gawne
of Castletown, Edward Brian Gawne of Kentraugh aforesaid and Drummon McLeod
Gawne of Brooklyn USA. The widow of the said Edward Gawne is dead.
5. The said John Moore Gawne predeceased the testatrix leaving two
sons viz Ewan Moore Gawne and Donale Harrish Gawne and two daughters viz
Eleanor Constance Gawne and Lancelyn Mary Gawne all of whom are residents in
England. His widow Theodosa Gawne is also residing in
England.
6. The said Isalen Jane Ogden predeceased the testatrix leaving her husband
and one son and two daughters surviving her, who are all residents in
Canada. Her children are Asyliner Ogden, Isalen Lyndhurst Ogden, and
Braidda Lyndhurst Ogden.
