The humble Petition of Frederick
Watson of Ballashellag in the
parish of Maughold Electrical
Engineer and Lily Watson his
wife and of Robert Lewin Cain
of No 1 Woodbourne Square in the
Borough of Douglas Gentleman and
Robert Henry Cubbin of Athol Street
in the said borough Accountant
Sheweth as follows
1. The late Mary Ann Creer of North View
Terrace Alexander Drive in the borough
of Douglas Widow aunt of the petitioner
Lily Watson departed this life on or
about the 28th day of March 1909 having
first made and published her last will
and testament bearing date the 25th day
of November 1902 and three codicils thereto
bearing dates respectively the 25th
day of January 1904 the 6th day of April 1905 and
the 30th day of January 1909 and whereof she
appointed your petitioners the said Robert
Lewin Cain and Robert Henry Cubbin the
executors.
2. It is necessary that representations should
be set up to the personal estate and effects of
the personal estate and effects of the said deceased
wherefore your petitioners
humbly pray a hearing hereof
and that your Honour may be
pleased to grant probate of the
said will and codicils of the
said Mary Ann Creer deceased
to the said Robert Lewin Cain
and Robert Henry Cubbin the
executors named in the said will
or to some other fit and proper
person or persons with such
other relief as is meet and
your petitioners will ever pray
Ordered that this petition do come to be heard at a court to be
holden at Douglas on Monday the 19th day of
April 1909 at 10:30 o’clock in the forenoon whereof
all proper parties and persons to have due notice
given this 14th day of April 1909

This is the last will and testament of me Mary Ann
Creer of 17 Alexander Drive in the borough of Douglas
widow of the late John Creer of the Towers in the said
borough deceased and I hereby revoke all wills codicils and
testamentary dispositions heretofore made or executed by me.
I leave and devise unto my daughter–in-law Louise Creer
widow of my late son John Joseph Creer all and singular
those three dwelling houses shops and premises belonging to
me situate and numbered 66,70 and 72 in Buck’s road
in the borough of Douglas to hold the same to her and her
heirs and assigns for her own use absolutely I leave and
devise unto my niece Lily Watson wife of Frederick Watson
electrician all and singular the dwelling house and premises
belonging to me situate and numbered 5 in Myrtle Street
in the borough of Douglas to hold the same to her and her
heirs and assigns for her own use absolutely I leave and
devise unto Caroline Howard Cain wife of my late husband’s
nephew William John Cain the dwelling house and premises
belonging to me situate and numbered 6 in Myrtle Street
in the borough of Douglas to hold the same to her and
her heirs and assigns for her own use absolutely I leave
and devise unto Robert Lewin Cain my late husband’s nephew
all and singular the dwelling house and premises belonging
to me situate and numbered 7 in Myrtle Street in the
borough of Douglas to hold the same to him and his heirs
and assigns for his own use absolutely I leave and devise
unto Emily Macdonald niece of my late husband and wife
of David Macdonald formerly Town surveyor of Douglas but
now Town surveyor of Rugby all and singular the dwelling
house and premises belonging to me situate and in which I now reside
situate and numbered 17 in Alexander Drive in the borough
of Douglas to hold the same to her and her heirs and assigns
for her own use absolutely I leave and devise unto the said
Robert Lewin Cain all and singular the annual ground
rent or land charge of three pounds eleven shillings and nine
pence belonging to me chargeable upon premises in Derby
Road in the borough of Douglas owned by Mary Corkill widow
to hold the same to him and his heirs and assigns for his
own use absolutely I leave and bequeath unto the said Lily
Watson all my wearing apparel and personal effects I leave
and bequeath unto the said Emily Macdonald the sum of two
hundred pounds I leave and bequeath unto the said Lily Watson
the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds I leave and bequeath
unto the said Robert Lewin Cain the sum of five hundred
pounds I leave and bequeath unto the said Caroline Howard
Cain the sum of five hundred pounds I leave and bequeath
unto Robert Henry Cubbin of the borough of Douglas accountant
formerly Clerk to my late son John Joseph Creer Advocate the
sum of one hundred pounds I leave and bequeath unto my
brother in law Henry Watson Moore of the borough of Douglas
photographer the sum of one hundred pounds I leave and
bequeath to my friend Annie Holmes of Port Soderick widow
the sum of one hundred pounds and to her daughters
Selina Holmes and Laura Holmes the sum of fifty pounds
each I leave and bequeath to the Treasurer of Nobles Isle
of Man Hospital the sum of five hundred pounds in trust
for the general purpose of that Institution. I leave and bequeath
to the Trustees of the House of Industry in Douglas the sum
of four hundred pounds in trust for the general purpose of
that Institution. I leave and bequeath to the Trustees of the
Isle of Man Industrial Home for Destitute children the
sum of three hundred pounds in trust for the general purpose
of that Institution. I leave and bequeath to the Trustees of the
Rosemount Wesleyan Methodist Chapel the sum of five hundred
pounds to the trustees of the Victoria Street Wesleyan Methodist
Chapel the sum of five hundred pounds to the trustees of the
Well Road Wesleyan Methodist Chapel the sum of three hundred
pounds and to the trustees of the Salisbury Street Wesleyan Methodist
Chapel the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds the said sums
to be respectively held by the said respective trustees in trust
for the purpose of maintaining repairing or keeping in repair
or paying off any debt on the respective Chapels and School
buildings in the borough of Douglas connected with their trusteeship
or noted in them as trustees in such manner as they shall
respectively in their absolute discretion see fit I leave and bequeath
to the Trustees of the Douglas Coal fund the sum of fifty pounds
in trust to use the same as directed by the Committee or other
body of person responsible for administering the charitable
fund known by that name I leave and bequeath to the vicar
and wardens of the parish of St Barnabas in Douglas the sum
of fifty pounds in trust to distribute the same amongst the
Widows in the widows House in Muckles Gate in Douglas
in such shares and distribution to be made one calendar month
after my death and the widows then resident in the said house
to participate therein I leave devise and bequeath all the rest
residue and remainder of my property and estate both real
and personal including my dwelling house and premises numbered
17 in Oxford Street to the said Louisa Creer Lily Watson and
Robert Lewin Cain to hold the same to them and their
respective heirs successors administrators and assigns according
to the nature and character of such property equally between
them share and share alike as tenants in common and I
hereby declare that any interest or benefit taken hereunder by
any female shall be for her sole and separate use free from
marital control I nominate and appoint the said Robert
Lewin Cain and the said Robert Henry Cubbin executors of
this my will In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed
my name this twenty-fifth day of November One thousand
nine hundred and two

This is a codicil to the foregoing last will and testament
of an Mary Ann Creer of Alexander Drive in the borough of
Douglas widow which said will bears date the twenty-fifth day
of November one thousand nine hundred and two
I hereby revoke that portion of my said will whereby I
leave and devise unto my daughter in law Louise Creer the
two dwelling houses and premises numbered 66 and 70 in
Buck’s Road in the borough of Douglas and instead of the three
houses devised to her by my said will situate in the said
road I leave and devise to her one only namely that
Dwelling House and premises numbered 72 in such road.
I leave and devise the said dwelling house and premises
numbered 66 in Buck’s Road aforesaid to Robert Lewin Cain
named in my said will To Hold the same to him and his
heirs and assigns for his own use absolutely I leave and
devise the said dwelling house and premises number 70
in Buck’s Road aforesaid to William Cain father of the
said Robert Lewin Cain To hold to him and his
heirs and assigns for his own use absolutely I hereby revoke
that portion of my said will whereby I leave and devise my
Dwelling house and premises numbered 17 in Oxford Street
in the borough of Douglas to the residuary legatees and devices
named therein and I leave and devise such dwelling house
and premises in Oxford Street aforesaid to Matthew Alfred Creer
of Mona Street in the said Borough nephew of my late husband
To hold the same to him and his heirs and assigns for his
own use absolutely I leave and bequeath to Laura Holmes
named in my said will with a further sum of fifty pounds in
addition to the legacy mentioned in my said will being the
amount of the legacy to her sister Selina who is now dead.
I leave and bequeath unto the trustees of the House of Industry
mentioned in my said will in addition to and upon the same
trust as the bequest to them contained therein a further sum
of one hundred pounds I leave and bequeath unto my cousin
Evan Kneale of Castle Mona Avenue in the borough of Douglas
painter the sum of one hundred pounds I nominate and appoint
the said William Cain father of Robert Lewin Cain aforesaid
as an executor to act along with the said Robert Lewin Cain
and with Robert Henry Cubbin named in my said will as executors
of my said will and this codicil hereto. I leave and bequeath
to Annie Oakden of Woodbourne Square in the said borough of
Douglas widow the sum of fifty pounds and except all hereby
altered in all other respects I confirm my said will in witness
whereof I have herewith subscribed my name this twenty-fifth
day of January one thousand nine hundred and four.

This is the second codicil of the last
will and testament of me Mary Ann Creer
of Alexander Drive in the borough of Douglas widow
I hereby revoke that portion of my
said will whereby I leave and bequeath
to Annie Holmes of Port Soderick the sum
of one hundred pounds, also the bequest
to Laura Holmes of Port Soderick the sum
of fifty pounds. I further revoke
and annul the following bequests contained
in the first codicil to this my will, namely
the bequest to Matthew Alfred Creer of all
and singular the dwelling house and premises
17 Oxford Street in the borough of Douglas,
the bequest to Laura Holmes of the sum of
fifty pounds, the bequest to Mrs Annie
Oakden of the sum of fifty pounds – and
direct that the same shall form and be
part of my residuary estate – in all other
respects I confirm my said will and codicil
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed
my name this sixth day of April one
thousand nine hundred and five.

This is the third codicil to the foregoing
Last will and testament of me Mary
Ann Creer of 17 Alexander Drive in the
borough of Douglas widow.
I hereby revoke that portion of and
contained in the first codicil of my said
will whereby I leave and devise unto
William Cain the dwelling house and
premises numbered 70 in Buck’s Road
in the said borough of Douglas as I am
of opinion that the said William Cain
is not of necessity in need of my devise.
I leave and devise the said dwelling house
and premises 70 Bucks Road aforesaid
to Robert Henry Cubbin of 11 Park Road
in the said borough of Douglas accountant
in recognition of his valuable services to
me since the death of my late son John
Joseph Creer in the management of my affairs
To hold the same to him his heirs and assigns
for his own use absolutely.
I hereby revoke that portion of my
said will whereby I leave and devise
unto Robert Lewin Cain the dwelling
house and premises numbered 7 in Myrtle
Street in the said borough of Douglas as
I am of opinion that he is already well
provided for in my said will and codicils
and I devise such dwelling house and
premises 7 in Myrtle Street aforesaid
to Margaret Burns at present resident
with me as my maid, in recognition of
devoted service to me in illness and health
To hold to her and her heirs and assigns
for her own use absolutely.
I hereby revoke the devise contained in the second codicil
whereby I devise 17 Oxford Street Douglas to the residuary legatees.
I leave and devise my dwelling house
and premises numbered 17 in Oxford Street
in the said borough of Douglas unto my
niece Lily Watson to hold to her and
her heirs and assigns for her own use absolutely
I leave and devise to my friend
Mrs ______ Marsden of Fort William
in the said borough of Douglas the sum
of fifty pounds
I hereby revoke that portion of my
said will whereby I nominate and
appoint William Cain as an Executor
in all other respects I confirm my said
will and codicils. In witness whereof I
have hereunto subscribed my name this 30th
day of January one thousand nine hundred and seven
