Top Ten Words of the Year for 2004

The most frequently looked-up word in the online version of the American dictionary, Merriam-Webster's, was blog. A blog is a noun short for Weblog, which originated in 1999 to describe a website that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer. In the Guardian newspaper online, you can also find a Gamesblog, a Guideblog, and an Onlineblog.
