Romans 7:1-25

"But sin, took advantage of the situation, and when sin heard that Moses had given the law, then sin brought about within me all kind of guilt, fear and condemnation. For without the law, sin was a dead duck." Friends, this is just my P.R. version of verse 8 of Romans chapter 7. Now, I want you to take a very close look at the very last part of verse 8 "FOR WITHOUT THE LAW, SIN WAS DEAD." So what Paul was basically saying to the Jews who KNEW the law was: "Your old husband has died. He can no longer point out your faults, nor your sins."

"You are free from the law. Why are you serving a dead husband? You have a new husband in Christ and you are His spotless, without blemish or wrinkle new bride. Through the body of Christ, the which you continue to deny and reject, you have all been set free from the husband that continuously expected nothing less than perfection out of you. Don't you guys get it? As long as you remain trusting in the law and attempting to serve it, you will never experience true freedom and peace of joy. So why don't you guys come and join and enjoy your new husband?"

"You all very well know that righteousness did not come through the works of the law. Continuing to believe that you are being justify by the deeds of the old husband only brings more consciousness of sin. You guys who know the law have heard what the law says? If you break the law at the slightest point, or fail to keep to the entire law, then the law remains alive in you and its wrath will be all over you like butter on bread. The law will continue to produce rotten fruit in your lives and keep you as a slave in bondage as long as you continue to cheat on your new husband by serving the old dead and buried old husband."

"Why don't you guys get a life and get with the program? The more you yield to the law, the more you yield to sin. But if you yield to Christ, then only righteousness and truth will reign in your life and you never have to fear again of what God might do to you, because you are now under grace and not under law. Do you guys get my drift? The whole world has been delivered from the law. It was the law that gave sin its strength. As long as the law remained alive, you remain in death. But when the law was put to death, you became alive unto God by Christ Jesus."

Friends, Paul says that we shouldn't be serving God in the oldness of the letter (the law), but in newness of the spirit which dwells in all of humanity through Christ Jesus. "FOR WITHOUT THE LAW, SIN IS DEAD." So if sin is dead, and you are dead to sin, and Christ has made you alive unto righteousness, then what sin or sins is God still angry with you about? How can God hold something against us that He put to death? Doesn't the letter to the Hebrews teaches us that Jesus put the law to death once and for all, and that our sins God remembers no more?

If God does not remembers our sins, and we are dead to sin and alive unto God in Christ Jesus, then how can anyone in their right mind continue to serve a dead old husband when we now have a living new husband? Sin (missing the mark) was not being held against anyone until the law said "Thou shall not." But when Moses gave the law, sin took the opportunity and began to point out all kinds of things in us. The law and sin became buddy, buddy with each other, and sin took advantage of the situation and went around telling the law: "Hey, did you see how he or she failed to do it right?"

"What is the punishment for failing to do such and such? I want to rub it in the face of that person and let him or her know that they have broken the law and they are deserving of death. Come on law, tell me what it is that they have done wrong so that I can make them feel guilty, fearful and put them under the bondage of condemnation. Come on now. You are the husband of wrath and vengeance, and you need to set your bride straight." Thank God that the new husband showed up and shut up the old husband by cutting its tongue out and putting the old man right where it belonged in the first place. In the grave.

Friends, had it not been for the law, although Paul called it good and our school teacher, we wouldn't have known what sin was. We were all dead to the law before Moses gave it, and we are now dead to the law again when Jesus crucified it to His own body. So who are you going to believe? Are you going to believe what religion tells you concerning how you need to confess your sins, or are you going to believe what God told you, that "as far as the East is from the West, your sin He remembers no more?"  You want to be free from a sin conscience? Then stop serving and listening to your old husband.

To be continued....

Grace N Peace
