One of the problems I had with re-styling the car to look like a Daytona Coupe was that I tilted the radiator forward to clear the new bodywork (see the Body Mods section). As a result, the radiator cap would no longer be the high point in the system and I wouldn't be able to reach it anyway. So how did Shelby do it I wondered? The answer was a surge tank. Through some research I found the Daytonas used a tank very similar to the ones found on early Corvettes. Again Ebay came to the rescue with a nice "Harrison" tank of of a '67 Vette. |

Here you can see the tank clamped to my homemade "Monte Carlo" bar (detailed next page). This tank is equipped with two 5/8" fittings . One was tied to the heater hose outlet on the water pump, the other to the heater core inlet. It also has one smaller line that was plumbed to the upper radiator line to bleed any trapped air, plus it also has an overflow line that will be plumbed to a catch can (required if I take it to the drag strip) This picture also shows the IC fan plenum as well as my polished turbo and painted manifold (ain't they purty!) |
