About the Artist

When I discovered marquetry years ago, I knew immediately that this art form was for me. Living in the country gives me an appreciation of nature and wood is an obvious medium to express this.

Working in veneers I am able to use woods that are rare and expensive in solid form. The costs of getting started are very small. My workshop is indoors so I am warm and comfortable during Canadian winters. There isn't a problem with dust or noise, and I am not exposed to harmful chemicals. Many of the problems and restrictions woodworkers face are not a problem for marquetry artists.

I use my own original designs exclusively. When a piece of work turns out well, it fills me with a sense of accomplishment and a hope that I have created something that will outlive me. When people see my work I want them to feel my attachment to nature and I hope they can sense my love of beautiful wood. Most people cannot resist reaching out to touch a piece of beautiful woodwork. To me, this is the ultimate compliment.
