Gem City Aviators - Name New Coach
The
Gem City Aviators General Manager took steps towards hiring a new coach.
In a news conference Today, Seth Iiames named Shawn Mayzes to the vacant
coaching duties. The team had flown back to Gem City to resume training
locally. "I requested that the camp be moved back to Gem City as I wanted
the players to get used to the Ice at the EJ Nutter Center. It was
imperative that we get back as soon as possible. Now the real camp starts,
and it will be a test of who can survive." Quoted the new coach Shawn
Mayzes.
The move
makes this Mr. Mayzes second coaching duties of his career. He was last a
coach for the Stockholm Vikings, of the now defunct DMFHL. "I loved the
Vikings, I was so proud to be a Viking, and now I am excited to bring that
feeling over to the Aviators organization. I do miss the guys from
that (Vikings) team, as we had a strong bond, but I truly feel the Aviators
can achieve and eclipse the bond and goals of the Vikes." Said Mayzes
about his new job.
When asked
about his playing duties colliding with his coaching duties he had this to
say. "When I coached the Vikes I was on the 3rd line, I will place myself
in the line-up where my play leads me, if I start the season slow, I will
have no problem benching myself. The Aviators have shown me a ton of
confidence in me, and I will be doing everything in my power to take
advantage of this opportunity."
Seth Iiames was
available for comment directly after the announcement. "I feel that
separation of the two jobs will greatly benefit the team. I felt as though
I couldn't fulfill both obligations as Coach and GM. Most can't, look at
Doug MacLean, and everyone's favourite person Glen Sather. They can't
devote enough time to fulfill each position. So I proudly take the coach
hat off and hand it to my good friend Shawn, who will without a doubt do
his job for the team. I felt it was important to leave the coaching part
to someone the team respected, and the community valued. I will be in the
office making sure things run smoothly from now on, and spreading the
workload amongst the team." |
