NOTES:

Note 1: Intermediate/Pre-Bronze & up Mini Course: We have had a number of requests for classes that would cover 1 or 2 dances, for a period of 5 weeks, at the Intermediate/Pre-Bronze level & above. We are able to offer these 5 week courses, on Wednesday & Friday evenings, focusing on different dances each time. This is an opportunity to solidify what you have already learned, and add some fun and interesting intermediate level variations. Unless otherwise noted, they are not beginner level classes. In these classes, we do not restrict ourselves to only certain dances and figures, but we draw upon the many variations which exist outside of the official syllabus, as well as occasionally including such dances as Mambo, Merengue, Viennese Waltz and Westcoast Swing. These classes are offered every term, and many students do continue to sign up year after year. Each 10-week term is divided into two 5-week sessions, each focusing on one or two different dances, and covering a variety of figures. There is an enormous body of material to draw upon and every term is different, so you can continue to take these classes for an indefinite period of time, and no term will simply be a carbon copy of a previous term. Classes include a mixture of new material and review of old favourites; the emphasis is on learning fun, practical social variations, along with styling and technique tips. The exact dances to be covered in the winter term are still to be deteremined – we welcome suggestions. Subject to space availability, these classes may be joined at any time, and you can continue to participate for as long as you wish by signing up for each new session as it comes up, i.e. winter, spring & fall. It is possible to sign up for only the first five weeks, or only the last five weeks, but preference will be given to those signing up for the complete ten week term. The pre-requisite is completion of Level 3. Each 5 week term costs $75 per couple, but if you sign up for two 5 week sessions, back to back in the same time slot, then there is a discounted price of $135 per couple. Please contact us for more information, to offer suggestions, or to register.

Note 2: Pre-Bronze, Bronze & Advanced Bronze syllabus ballroom dance: In these classes, we follow a set syllabus, only covering those dances and steps listed in the official syllabus, so it is more structured than the Mini-Courses described above. We will be covering the following dances only: Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep, Rhumba, Cha Cha, Jive & Samba. In addition to learning figures at the appropriate level, we will also focus on developing a good basic dance technique, as this is important in order to dance well and look and feel your best out on the floor. It is important to note that there is more material in the syllabus at the Pre-Bronze and Bronze Level, than can be adequately covered in only one term of dance classes. Therefore, it is recommended, although not mandatory, that you anticipate taking three terms of Pre-Bronze or Bronze, for example, fall, winter & spring. The Pre-Requisite for Pre-Bronze is completion of Level 3. Upon completion of three terms of Pre-Bronze, and the recommendation of the instruction, you can advance to Bronze, and/or you can enroll in the Variety classes described below. Upon completion of three terms of Bronze, you are eligible for Advanced Bronze. Registration is through Saanich Commonwealth Place and the cost is $88 pp plus GST.
