Environmental Hazards
Everyone wants to live an an environmentally safe house. Over the years, common construction materials such as asbestos, lead, buried oil tanks and have been recognized as problems. More recently, mould issues have been highlighted as contributing to some health problems.
A visual home inspection is not an environmental audit and most contaminants are not visible. For example, it is not technically possible to confirm if a material contains asbestos unless it is examined under a microscope.
Metro Home Inspections excludes the identification of environmental contaminants from the scope of the house inspection, as do most home inspectors.
- It does not mean that we abandon all common sense when we inspect a house.
- Pipe or duct wrap, if found will be flagged, as having possible asbestos content
- Caution will be given if there are visible signs of an old buried oil tank
- Areas that are chronically wet will be reported as being at risk of developing surface or possibly having concealed mould.
We just don't want you to think that home inspectors will see through walls.
