Concessions in 1709 at the west end of Lac Saint-Pierre (except Sorel)


Below is a map prepared in 1709 of all concessions (owners mentioned) in that area, prepared by Gédéon de Catalogne, lieutenant in the Compagnies Franches de la Marine (the model of the U.S. Marines). Unfortunately Sorel is not included

There were 15 concessionaries in the seigneurie of Berthier and none in d'Autray.

A liitle footnote: You will notice the presence of a large swamp named "Baie des atocas". Atoca is the French-Canadian word for cranberry. The Algonquin word for cranberry is ANTAYA. A Pelletier was a settler at that place and his descendants became known as Pelletier dit Antaya (to differentiate them from those in Sorel?). The swamp is still there today.
