THE FAMILY & ANCESTORS OF JEAN LAVALLÉE
DIT "PETIT JEAN" (1652-1692)

There are at least eight paternal ancestors of the Lavallée families in North America (not including the VALLÉE). For most of these, the Lavallée name is not the original name but rather a nickname eventually adopted as the family name. Two of these families, possibly the most numerous of all the Lavallées today, are the PAQUET dit La Vallée and the LAVALLÉE descendants of Jean LAVALLÉE dit PETIT JEAN. This latter Lavallée family is the main interest of this website, although there is a lot of data that might concern other Lavallées families.

Jean Lavallée dit Petit-Jean - There are few original documents where this ancestor is mentioned. This present work attempts to shed some light on him, his origins and some of his descendants. The case is made for his ascendancy. Hopefully this may stimulate more 'in-depth' research by amateur genealogists on their ancestors by showing that it is possible to dig and find generally unknown stuff on their folks, using very ordinary means.
