Challenge Quilts

I have participated in a few art quilt challenges and I am planning to do more. It helps to focus when I have a particular theme.

Future art quilt

The Future - Examine the Possibilities

The Alternative Quilt List issued a challenge to make a small quilt showing what the future means to you. I had originally envisioned a quilt with one door and a key but my girlfriend brought over a whole box of old keys and I couldn't resist the lovely shapes. Maybe I should change the name to The Future - Alternate Realities.
Old, New, Borrowed, Blue art quilt

Old, New, Borrowed, Blue

This quilt was created for a Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue challenge. I chose to depart from the traditional theme and portray the uncertainty that may result from life's unexpected challenges. The old is the old life on at the front of the gate, the new is the new and unknown life awaiting after you step through into the blue beyond (the free-floating oval in the center of the gate, and the borrowed is the 2 people at the top of the gate which was a pair of earrings ""borrowed" from my friend. I used thread painting to create the stones in the gate and to enhance the cornerstones. 28" x 28". $45.00

Playing Tag in the Asteroids

Another challenge quilt. This time for one called Black and White and Pink All Over. I used free motion quilting, lots of beads, sequins, vintage buttons, pompoms made of a sparkly yarn, overlaid organza to create a nebula look, and inserted a woven ribbon panel to simulate another nebula. 20" x 28 1/4". $40.00
