Other Art Quilts

Art quilts are so much fun. Over the years I have learned many new techniques such as thread painting, layering sheer fabrics, and free motion quilting. Here are a few quilts I have made along the way using some of the new things I have learned. And there are so many more to go!

Avoidance of A Round Tuit Art Quilt

This quilt came about because I was avoiding doing all the chores that I should have been doing and playing in my sewing room. Hence the name and all the rectangles and squares with a few token "round tuits".

After a Fire

My submission for Elements 2008 Jounal Quilts was not juried in to the show but I had fun making it. It represents the regrowth that takes place after a forest fire.

Stormy Sky Art Quilt

My friend brought me the piece of fabric I used for the sky and said she knew I could do something with it. It looked like a storm sky to me and I was also looking at a book of Emily Carr paintings at the time and wanted to try something with her bold, free style. I used fused raw edge appliqué and free motion quilting.

I made this art quilt as a gift for a friend. I wanted to made something bright and cheery and sunflowers always make me smile. I used fused appliqué applied with satin stitch for the flowers, leaves and stems.
