Silk Fiber Series

I had some raw silk fiber for making soap...way too much. A friend put it in her dye baths after she had finished dyeing her wool and the result was so much fun to play with. I combined the different colours with some funky costume jewellry and vintage buttons to make art quilts.

Aunt Mamie's Ribbon

My girlfriend gave me a piece of silk ribbon from her aunt's wedding dress. The ribbon was old and very fragile and I could only salvage a very small piece. I combined it with the silk fibers and some earrings and pearl beads on black cotton to make an eye-catching art quilt. Private collection.

Sunmmer Meadow

I had so much fun making Aunt Mamie's Ribbon that I decided to make some more with other colors of the silk fibers. I combined a funky black bead and pearl necklace with the fibers. I omitted the solvy stabilizer I had used on Aunt Mamie's Ribbon as it left the silk fibers feeling stiff and just held the fibers on with pearl beads. It gives much more depth to the fibers. $30.00

Firey Sunset

This art quilt was made using some of the orange and red silk fibers surrounded by an ivory-look chunky necklace and held on with pearl beads. It reminds me of pictures of an African sunset. $30.00

River

The last one in the series reminds me of a river. The blue silk fibers are held in place with vintage glass and metal buttons. $30.00
