I have participated in several quilt swaps. It can be both fun and challenging, particularly in grap bag swaps as you have to make a quilt with whatever you receive in the swap bag. In the regular swaps, you design and make a quilt of your choice, which sometimes is a little easier.

Grab Bag Art QuiltThis quilt was made for the 2007 Grabbag Quilt Swap. I was relieved when I opened the envelope and found lots of colours that I loved, many of them orientals. I picked all the orientals and some blue leaves and green paper from the bag and added the ecru linen, black fabric, abalone or mother-of-pearl buttons, candlelite thread, and beads from my stash. It was hard to let it go back to its owner. |

Moth Art QuiltI really admire the art quilts of Annemieke Mein and was inspired to make this moth art quilt for a swap. I did a color wash with acrylic paints on wet muslin for the background and quilted it after it was dry. The moth was thread painted and three-dimensional and sewn on. |

Silk Feather Art QuiltThis is another swap quilt. I wanted to try free motion quilted feathers. I used a sage silk dupioni with gold dupioni for the border. It was really difficult to photograph because of the glare of the silk so the colors appear somewhat faded in the picture. |

Fantasy Fabric Art QuiltI used the techniques in Bonnie McCaffrey's book Fantasy Fabric to make this art quilt - layering the sheers and capturing objects. It was accented with beads. |
