This course is taught by the worst professor at UVic. By 'worst', I mean that this person seems to have no understanding of his job description. I don't want to name names, but just go to the RateMyProfessors.ca listing at http://ratemyprofessors.ca/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=86889. In order to bypass the teaching process, this guy fortunately has some somewhat-decent slides. In class he simply reads off the slides verbatim, so you're best off just printing them off ahead of time and spending 10 minutes reviewing them yourself. There isn't much point in going to the classes. This is really a shame. Electrical components are essential to mechanical engineering - there's hardly a machine out there that doesn't have a motor, pump, or something electrical attached. This chump is doing the Faculty of Engineering a huge disservice by not instructing students on an essential area of our field. The text book (Hambley), however, was excellent. I actually found myself reading through it on my own time - there's a really neat blurb on the 'Caterpillar Drive' from The Hunt for Red October. This book is a great reference, and is a keeper. Six assignments, four labs, and a midterm. I have them all, so e-mail me and I'll send them over to you. |
