Contract Coordinator

§     Answered technical questions and authorized changes to construction & contracts.

§     Implemented  Quality  Assurance  programs for  all  mechanical  systems of the CFB Cape Breton Fleet Maintenance Facility   and   Corrosive Fluids Facility  at  CFB Esquimalt.

§     Commissioned and inspected equipment and oversaw tests on mechanical equipment/systems.

§     Completed AutoCAD standards course offered by DND.

§     Conducted   structural  and  safe  working  load  analysis of various crane-lifted equipment, to meet Workers Compensation Board requirements.

§     Completed   ‘as-built’   drawings   to  document   completed  work  on marine vessels (including BCFC ‘Spirit of Vancouver Island’) using AutoCAD.

§     Tested   vessels,   and   designed/drafted    structures,    according  to directions from my supervisor.

§     Oversaw assembly  and quality  control  in  the production shop for a variety of electric/electronic devices related to the renewable energy field.

§     Completed  a  detailed report  regarding requirements,  design, and loading of a remote solar-powered radio-transmitting station (FireNet).

§     Processed grocery  orders with an emphasis on  customer service.   Other duties included  ordering  from  distributors,  training  new staff, and  flexibility  to  work in other departments.

Deckhand

§     Employed  as  deckhand,  steward,  and  cook  on  a  variety  of marine vessels ranging from oil tankers to coastal tugboats.

§     In  the   slow  seasons,   time was spent  at    Vancouver   Shipyards (Vancouver)    and    Point    Hope  Shipyards   (Victoria),   doing  a  variety  of jobs including sandblasting, power washing, painting, and chipping.

§     Restored  ships  above the  waterline.  Gained experience using  most machine- shop  equipment,   such  as  drill presses,  compressors,  sandblasters, chippers, and lathes.

§     Employed   as    a  receiver   at   several   of  Dylex’s    retail   clothing  locations throughout  Victoria,  B.C.     Stores   included  Tip  Top  Tailors  and  Fairweather at Hillside, Mayfair, Bay (formerly Eaton’s) Center, and Tillicum shopping malls.

 

 

Community activities

 

Through my employment at Thrifty Foods, I was involved in raising funds for the 24-Hour Relay (for the Easter Seal camp in Shawnigan, BC), and the Daring to Believe Campaign (for the construction of the Cancer Research facility in Victoria, BC) by seeking sponsors and organizing fund-raising dances and auctions.

With the UVic Engineering Student Society, I have raised funds for the Queen Alexandra Children’s Hospital (Victoria, B.C.) through the UVic Engineering Order of Pi, and for the United Way through the UVic Engineer’s Bug Push charity event.

 

 

Interests and activities

 

Hiking/camping; reading; replica sculpture; cooking.

 

 

 

Volunteer experience

 

During my involvement with the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Scouts Canada programs, I spent over 200 hours volunteering in nursing homes, hospitals, and libraries.  I have also spent several summers as a volunteer counselor at George Pringle Memorial Camp in Shawnigan, BC
