MECH 350

This course was just plain fun.  For our mini-project, we had to build a hyper-accurate catapult - our group was the only team to drop all five shots into the target (a 30-cm ring 10 meters from the launch site).

The main project was a device for disabled kids at a local Children's' Hospital.  Kinda gave you a warm fuzzy.  Our group designed a laptop opener.

MECH 350 had the typical 'project course' breakdown.  Progress/midterm/final presentations and reports.  I have all my material available if you'd like to see it, but since it's all quite specific to our design, I don't know how useful it'll be.

Also, part of the evaluation went towards an essay written on the subject of an engineering failure.  Most students wrote about the NASA Challenger or the Quebec Bridge.  I found something a little more obscure.

I've got the paper I turned in for the project.  I got an A+ on this one, so I'm only mentioning it so that you know the standard of what is expected.  Click here to open the .pdf file (give it a moment to download, it's around 1.6MB).  Of course, it you all turn in the same paper, well, it won't look good.  Wink, wink.

Besides, I think it was a pretty original and interesting topic... 21 people killed by a molasses tsunami...
