Once again I am reluctant to name names, but I have the feeling the prof took it easy on us for this course. Regardless, I highly recommend taking it, provided it's taught by the same prof (see MECH 220). It was an 'easy A'. But if you're one of these strange animals who is looking for a challenge, this is not the course for you. After being put through the meat-grinder called MECH 330 (which was essentially a course in vibrations), almost all of the concepts in this course had already been taught to us. MECH 421 just gave us some polish, reinforced some practical ideas, and introduced a little new information towards the end. We used the same book as MECH 330, and the prof gave out some excellent hand-outs. We had 4 assignments, one project (a Matlab simulation of a building under a seismic load), a midterm and a final (both open-book). I have all my notes, assignments, Matlab file, and midterm. E-mail me, and I'll send it on over. |
