I've always had intentions to start a grass-roots political
party. The only things keeping me from pursuing this goal are my morals
and a complete lack of law-school credentials (which seems essential to Canadian
politics).
Some platforms I wish to include:
- Voluntary service for two years in social services or
the Canadian Armed Forces for all high-school graduates. Service will
guarantee a paid education in approved trades or university programs.
- Increase funding to trade and high-tech educational
programs, and increase introductory/experience programs at a middle-school
level.
- Lower the age in the Young Offenders Act to 14
years. Increased education/penalties to parents of Young Offenders.
- Lower the drinking age to 16 years and raise
the driving age to 19 years - encourage responsibility in a logical order.
- Legalize marijuana and therefore increase
funds for investigation/prosecution of hard drug offences (such as heroin,
cocaine, and 'crystal meth').
- Establishment of drug-treatment/mental-health
centres to alleviate the homeless problems in larger cities.
- Decrease government payrolls and guarantee
private-sector re-integration for surplus government employees (through
retraining programs) - use the freed funds to bolster universal
health-care.
- End disproportional 'cultural' spending for the
Provinces.
- Decrease diversion of Provincial/Territorial natural
resources revenue to Ottawa.
- Increase funding to the Canadian Armed Forces to
allow our military professionals to maintain a quality of life competitive
to their civilian counterparts.
- Increase funding to municipality-based environmental
programs.
- Diversify our international trade to emphasize
overseas relations, thereby deceasing our reliance on the U.S. market.
Although I realize that the above issues fall under both
provincial and federal legislation, I believe that cooperation at both levels
can achieve these goals.
If you wish to help me organizing a long-term effort to bring
these proposals into effect, please contact me at
