PROGRAM HISTORY & TRIVIA
1994-1995
Liz Gigante gets hired at Port Moody Senior Secondary
She holds tryouts in the Fall of 1994 and four kids show up
At one point in the year, she has 12 athletes that she is training for competiton
A few refuse to go in front of the crowd at a Basketball game and quit
Liz makes a routine for the 6 athletes left and takes them to a competition
NONE of these athletes carry over to the next year's team....
1995-1996
1st year PMSS has a Competitive Cheer and Dance Team.
There are no tryouts; anyone that signs up, makes the team.
14 athletes survive the summer training
Tryouts in September brings 6 more athletes out
Team places 1st at most local competitions
15th place finish at the USA Nationals.
1996-1997
Port Moody has their first Dance Team.
Sr. Cheer Team places 1st at various local competitions.
Sr Cheer Team places in the top half at the USA Nationals.
Team performs at the Boys BC Basketball Championships.
1997-1998
Dance Team places 10th at the USA Nationals.
Ben Newcombe places 3rd in Individual Songleading
Our team places 8th in the Performance Cheer Category
PMSS has their 1st male cheerleader: Rishi
PMSS has their 1st JV Cheer and Dance Team this season.
1998-1999
Road trip to Portland was a blast.
The "Full Monty" Senior Skit goes down in history.
Zab sprains her ankle in warm up at the Nationals
Tara, Jeanette and Sheena endure and compete with multiple injuries to help secure many 1st place finishes locally
Anaheim was a blast, Rachel finishes 11th in Individual Songleading.
PMSS "Raises the Roof" in Anaheim.
1999-2000
Port Moody hits their routine for the 1st time ever at Oak Harbor.
The "Bertstreet Boys" Senior Skit rocked the Spirit Assembly
PMSS goes to Ontario and billets with C.C.H.  Performed great at the Blakelock Competition, won the "Cupie" stunt competition and blew it at PCICs ....
PMSS rocks the gym and wins the Northwest Cheerleading Championships in Washington.
Sheena finally graduates from Port Moody...yahoo (just kidding)
PMSS wins the Notre Dame Dance Championships for their 4th year in a row.
2000-2001
Port Moody becomes Small Co-ed with two boys: Dan and Jerome
The "THONG SONG" Senior Skit rocks the Spirit Assembly
PMSS makes finals at the USA NATIONALS for their first time and then places 5th in finals!!
Port Moody hosts Wagner from Edmonton during the Port Moody Championships. What a blast!!
2001-2002
Port Moody remains Small Co-ed with two boys: Dan and BJ
Port Moody has their very last 'Senior Skit' and the school goes through a 10 million dollar renovation and Teacher Protest that kills school spirit and prevents us from going to Edmonton for a planned team trip.
The Port Moody Comp is cancelled
Under the Performance Cheer Course Objectives, the team is still able to attend the USA Nationals where our team goes down in HISTORY becoming the first Canadian Cheerleading team EVER to win a USA National Event.
2002-2003
Port Moody remains Small Co-ed with one boy: Oliver
Port Moody Cheerleaders make a Calendar to celebrate their USA Nationals' Win. It's a great success and fund raiser
Port Moody wins the Varsity Division at all BC Competitions
Our Show Cheer Routine at USA Nationals has serious spacing and formation issues which prevent us from making the finals. The team places a respectable 13th place out of 26 teams.
The team trains up to 10 hours a week for a month, learning a new routine and goes to the Canadian PCA Nationals where they prove that they had what it took all along...
The Moody Blues WIN the Canadian Nationals and bring home the banner!!
