PSI FORMS:
Grade 12‘s should go to the
following website: https://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/tsw/tsw/student/
to complete the online form for PSI choices. This is to indicate which colleges
and universities will be able to receive their final marks after graduation.
These marks are then provided electronically to those institutions.
COURSE SELECTION:
Students
in grades 9, 10 and 11 have received their course selection forms. Please
ensure that these are completed and returned by March 11, 2011. Many students
have signed up for individual meetings and these will take place over the next
month. Students should hand in their forms to me by March 11th even
if they have not yet had a chance to meet with me. They will be able to change
their course choices if necessary when we do later meet.
Two excellent resources to begin
your career planning research can be found online at www.educationplanner.bc.ca and the linked http://www.educationplanner.bc.ca/careerdeveloper websites.
PROVINCIAL EXAM MARKS:
The Grade 10, 11 and 12 exam
results are available March 4th. Students can access their exam
results by going to http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/student.htm under the link ―Exam Results on the
left menu. They will need their P.E.N. number (Personal Education Number from
the ministry of education – located in the top left-hand box on your report
card), surname and date of birth to create a password for their ―account.
In the future they will use this account to check their other exam results.
U.F.V.:
Students who have applied to
specific programs will be contacted by UFV with information about submitting
their grades online. Information on how to do this can be found at
Students who wish to register in
a first year English course need to write the CPT (Composition Placement Test) very
soon if they did not get a final C+ in English 12. Information on doing so is
available from Mr. Fraser.
UBC, SFU, UVIC:
These schools also have online
self-reporting systems. Students who have applied will be sent information on
how to submit their grades. Students should follow the instructions very
carefully, as grades that are submitted incorrectly are difficult to correct.

Documents
for high school applicants
High school applicants do not need to submit high school transcripts or test
scores with their application for admission for any program.
High school applicants who require interim grades will need to submit them in
March, through the self-reporting system (see below). Students who require test
scores to qualify for admission to a program should ensure they have taken the
tests by mid-February so that the scores are available by March 31.
If the program requires other documents (such as a personal statement or
additional application) these should be submitted with the application. For
more detail about program entrance requirements, students should check the
program section of the online calendar at www.ufv.ca/calendar
Students
report high school grades in March
In February, students in programs requiring final and/or interim grades will be
sent detailed instructions on how to submit their grades. The UFV
self-reporting system will be open from March 1 to March 31. Interim grades are
not required for all UFV programs; for example, they are not required for
students who have applied to any of the program paths (i.e. Arts Studies or
Science Studies) or to General Studies.
Composition Placement Test – students who wish to take first year
English and some Communications courses at U.C.F.V. must write this (unless they
have a final mark of C+ in English
12 or English Literature 12). See Mr. Fraser for more information.
TOEFL
Any international students
planning to write the TOEFL should register soon. See Mr. Fraser for details.

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES:
Information will be coming out in
March regarding the Knights of Columbus and CWL bursaries. Keep an eye on your
parish bulletins for other awards, particularly the CWL award for the
archdiocese.
The best place to do your research for scholarships
and bursaries (general) is at the following links:
www.studentawards.com - A good
scholarship site.
http://www.bcawardsonline.org/ - Great place to research
scholarships and bursaries by subject matter or by deadlines.
You
can also search university websites for the awards they offer.
GRADE 9-12 STUDENTS: VOLUNTEER
SERVICE (SCHOOL, PARISH, COMMUNITY):
Please
note that many scholarships and bursaries focus not only on grades but on
service work that students have done during their high school years. It is
never too early to begin volunteering in your parish and community to better
prepare your award applications in Grade 12 (and to be a better person of
course).

Please Stay Up to
Date
I highly recommend that parents become involved in their son or
daughter’s scholarship search and application process. Many applications and
many deadlines are missed as students get busier throughout the school year and
put things aside. I urge all Grade 12 parents to add their names to my email
list so that I can provide updates directly to you. Please send an email to mrfraseris@shaw.ca or dfraser@stjohnbrebeuf.ca and ask to
be added to the email list.
Feel free to contact
