New Orphic Review isn’t subsidized by
the Canada Council or similar government granting agencies. Nor does it
receive money from academic institutions. It is totally independent. The 24th Issue
(Vol. 12, No. 2, Fall, 2009) of The New Orphic Review, entitled “Story
Autopsy,” contains: Fiction by Tim Strutz, Sandra Hartline, Louis E. Bourgeois, Ross Klatte, Susan
L. Ferraro, Margrith Schraner & Ernest Hekkanen. Poetry by Ian Adam, Jonathan Marplot, Nancy White, Ivor C Treby, Paul J. Healy,
Maureen Egan, Jill Mandrake & Jon Wesick Essays by Ernest Hekkanen The New Orphic Review is a semi-annual literary magazine that is published in the spring and
the fall. It is listed in Poet’s

The Pushcart Prize and Best American Short Stories. It has featured poetry, fiction and essays by authors from Finland,

(Canada) $35. 00 (USA) The New Orphic Review publishes fiction and articles up to 10,000
words in length. It publishes poetry ranging from sonnets to free verse, but
the editor-in-chief, Ernest Hekkanen, who describes himself as “an
opinionated visionary beholden to no one,” is
tough on poets. He is a man who appreciates versatility and range, and
The New
Orphic Review exemplifies
this. Submissions by mail only. Include an SASE. If you are from the U.S. or Europe, enclose
an IRC. The editor-in-chief doesn’t respond by email to submissions. If you
want a response, enclose an envelope! I’m tired of receiving U.S. submissions
with U.S. postage on the SASEs. U.S. stamps are useless in Canada. If your
post office doesn’t deal in IRCs, enclose some U.S. currency that can be
turned into suitable postage. Many writers have appeared in the pages of The New Orphic Review. Some of them include Allan Brown, Hillel Wright, F.A.
