Once upon a time there was no way to look up names of merchants in NewPort Village.  As a result, people would telephone one of the three merchants in the village with "NewPort Village" in their names: NewPort Village Barbers, NewPort Village Meats, or myself (Gary Barone) at NewPort Village Chiropractic.

On August 5th, 2003, Kirsten Anderson (then the president of the merchant association) having seen my not-bad-for-an-amateur (but free) website designs encouraged me to make one for the village in order to help advertise the upcoming 1st annual Festa Italiana. 

At 9pm, August 6th, 2003, www.newportvillage.net went live.  The site listed all paying members of the merchant association.  Suddenly there were fewer inquisitive villagers calling our offices. 

On January 2007 the NewPort Merchant Association dissolved, and all newport village merchants are now listed.  I also now include other businesses in the area.

At the time I wrote this the site had about 30,000 unique visitors, and hundreds of thousands of hits.
