Getting Adjusted

The chiropractic adjustment, when performed by a chiropractor is one of the safest forms of treatment available.  Dr. Barone uses chiropractic adjustments on approximately 70-80% of his patients (only with their permission).

When joints become unhealthy, their motion loses fluidity in one or more directions.  Before performing an adjustment we check each joint individually for full and fluid range of motion in all directions.  When (and only when) a joint is not moving properly, we place a little pressure on the joint to move it a very small distance in a specific direction within its normal range of motion.  We call this an "adjustment."

When this stiff joint moves for the first time in months or years it will often make a noise.  This is typically painless.

You can see then that an adjustment is not an enigma, but simply a tiny, skillfully performed stretch to a stiff joint, to help restore normal motion.

Dr. Barone uses soft-tissue therapy with movement to treat the areas surrounding an adjustment.
