The 62nd Annual General Meeting of the Vanderhoof & Districts Co-op was attended by over 250 members and guests on April 23rd. The meeting opened with Jake Thiessen saying grace for the meal. A great meal including turkey, beef and ham was provided.
The meeting was MCed by Mayor Len Fox. Several reports were given including the Controller’s Report indicating a record savings of over $9 million for the year 2006. This is greater than a 55% increase over the $5.8 million for the year 2005. This exceeds the nearly 50% increase the year before. Savings have more than doubled from 2004 to 2006.
The Co-op operates from Prince George to Terrace but is expanding east with a cardlock at McBride Forest Industries at McBride and a cardlock under construction in Valemont.
The members approved a patronage refund of 6.10%. For ever dollar that co-op members spent at the co-op last year they will receive 6¢ back. (For money that they spent elsewhere, they receive nothing back.) The co-op also gave out $35,000 in donations to support a variety of activities in our community. These included $4,000 in bursaries to our young people.
Another highlight of the evening was the door prizes. There were thirty door prizes which ranged in value from $27 to $300 and totaled well over $1,000. The largest prize was a framed print by Joe Farrante which was won by Jack Roach.
It has been a great year for the Vanderhoof & Districts Co-operative Association and even the very conservative budget projects savings for the year 2007 to be 30% above the year 2005.
