East Francois Lake Volunteer Fire/Rescue Charity Receives Grant

The East Francois Lake Volunteer Fire/Rescue Charity applied for and qualified for a Provincial Grant (CNIG-Communcation Network Infrastructure Grant) to be used to expand communications to smaller communities who were not linked through larger companies such as Telus.  Quoted as the "last mile" the intent is to construct and link a series of towers needed to supply communications such as high speed internet.  The $20,000.00 grant was passed to the F.L & District Rebroadcasting Society on August 15/07 to enable them to manage the funds for the construction of the East Francois Lake tower.

The site has been selected and as quoted by Alan Madill of Hwy. 16 Internet, "We are waiting on com site land use approval and then will begin construction.  The Fort Fraser end of link to Francois Lake is complete and radios and antennas are installed.  Once approval is received we will need to slash a trail to the site and any volunteer help with this portion of the project would be appreciated." If you are able to assist in this project please contact Alan Madill at 250-567-4200.

If you need clarification or more info please let me know.
