I fully support outdoor recreation; I feel that we need to encourage more of our children to get outdoors and be active.
What activities do you support; please prioritize these in terms of the greatest good for the greater number.
I support soccer as it builds leadership and teaches youth how to be part of a team and work as a team, swimming which provides life long fitness, biking – all types – as it provides both recreational opportunities and alternative mode of transportation, golfing which is a great individual sport, and skiing/snowboarding which is a great family sport.
For field sports, having artificial turf means we can expand the programs that we have and allow for more opportunities to get youth and adults involved in physical activity. As our community grows so does the demand for field use, and due to our weather, that often means that grass fields are closed and the demand for turf increases.
Not at all. Having organized the NVFC 1st Invitational Tournament last year during the pouring rain, I saw first hand how much damage can be done to our grass fields. If we had more turf fields, we could have larger tournaments. It also would allow more playing time locally for all our user groups year round. As a soccer community, we play during the winter months and it would be great to be playing during the summer months.
I see turf fields being paid for through a partnership program between clubs, user groups, government, & private corporations. We all benefit from being active, and working together we can provide more turf for our community.
I would like to see each high school have a turf field. As well, I believe we should develop at a strategic plan with all the partner groups, and look at what we have and what we need, how best to get there, and then set a priority plan in place to move forward.
