What we know about the Rocky Mountain Cougars
This is a call for anyone who has knowledge of the Rocky Mountain Insurance Company, their cars, employees who drove one of these cars in 1969, people who worked for Universal Sales in Calgary or any one who has any information regardless how trival it may be. I would like to hear from you by email Click on the contact envelopes and tell me what you know.
This is what is known.
In 2005 we have found 8 cars that are on the road, two more that are close to being back on the road, two that have been parted, one lost in a fire and one went to the crusher.
This morning (09.04.03) I spoke with Fred Steele a former salesman for Rocky Mountain Life. The discussion was short and in some areas he did not want to continue. In keeping with personal privacy, some details have been ommitted.
The use of the purple and white car was a bonus incentive for sales, to qualify they had to sell 12 policies in the first month then 8 policies each month after that to retain the use of the car. There were two training sessions for salesmen, that were held at the Banff Center, Freds comment that you could easily pick the wrong car with them all in the parking lot together (I am currently searching for a group photo if it exists). The company business spanned the province of Alberta and included Life insurance and investments for families children. Fred operated out of Lethbridge and still lives in Southern Alberta. He purchased the car from the company and it became his wifes car until she passed away in 1991. The car changed hands a couple of times and is now owned by Marvin.
