CANUCK CLASSIC UPDATE #5
September 06, 2006
Hi to all,
Well another super derby!!! It was a beautiful day, lots of great people, loads and loads of delicious food and the most important thing day birds. To say it was a challenging year would be an understatement. Everybody lost so many young birds that it was depressing, including the derby but in the end we had 73 birds that were in excellent shape and anyone certainly could have been a winner.
First of all congratulations to all the winners!!! Next a big thank-you to everyone who helped out whether it be with food contributions, collecting monies, selling pools, doing the boards etc. etc. etc. There is a huge amount of time and preparation that goes into putting on a first class event and the help and effort of our club certainly showed a great result.
John and Hilda once again did a really fantastic job with the birds. It was great to have Chris back to do the auction for us and our newest club member Christine did a really good job helping him with the boards. Thank you Rene and Corrie for putting the pools in the computer, what a time saver for those of us that have to figure out the payouts. There are so many people to thank but when you see the result and everyone laughing and having a great time it is really worth all the time and effort. So thanks each and every one of you.
We are looking ahead to next year and hopefully we will see everyone of you back for another day with friends and fellow flyers. Enjoy the rest of the year and see you in the spring.
Sincerely 2006 Canuck Classic Derby

CANUCK CLASSIC UPDATE #3
August 07, 2006
Hi Everyone,
Well this year has certainly been a challenge, not just for the derby birds but everyone in the valley. Loss of young birds this season is probably the worst most flyers can recall throughout the past many years.
We started out with great tosses and then had several devastating tosses and we lost a lot of birds. After some short tosses to regain the birds confidence, we are now back to an aggressive training program.
We would like to remind you of some of the details of the “Sprint to Win” which will be held on August 19th. Because of the problems with the training a decision has been made to release the birds from Keremeos 140 miles. The entry fee is $25.00 per bird which must be paid before race day to ensure your bird qualifies. Please send monies to Darlene Fraser 33878 Richards Ave; Mission, B.C. V2V7E3 604-820-2899. Payout for the “Sprint to Win” will be 50-30-20 split. All monies will be paid out in prize money and will be paid in order of clocking. Included is a list of remaining Derby birds.
For information on the release time of the Derby birds call the club hotline at 604-856-3637 in the morning of the 19th and please come and watch the birds arrive.
Good luck everyone!!!
Sincerely the Canuck Classic Committee
CANUCK CLASSIC UPDATE #2
July 15, 2006
Hi Everyone,
Just a brief note to let everyone know that the birds in the derby loft are doing very well. The birds are healthy, loving their new aviaries and ranging for long periods. We’ve lost a few birds to hawks but on the whole it’s been pretty good. Our training program has now started and as training progresses the birds will be going in the truck with the club birds but as always with separate releases.
We are very pleased with the amount of participation this year. We have strived to make this not only a great race but an enjoyable weekend for everyone. Lots of food, lots of prizes and lots of fun!!!!
Also a reminder that those of you who have not yet sent in their entry fees please do so as soon as possible. The total for your four bird team is $250.00. $150.00 for the four bird perch and $100.00 non-refundable entry on one bird. There will be a $100.00 entry fee payable at race time for any remaining birds.
If you have any questions please call John Koene at 604-576-2463.
Sincerely Canuck Classic Committee
