EDITOR'S NOTE:
Bobby Edrosa is a pigeon enthusiast born in Marikina, Philippines. Like many kids in his neighbourhood, he enjoyed tossing his pigeons to let them fly from far away places and back home. He won many friendly pigeon racing competition but the opportunity to join a real club eluded him because of a lack of awareness in the sport at that time in the Philippine Islands.
After 3 years of keeping four dozens of breeders and flyers, his interest slowly waned due in part to a steady increase in pigeon feed costs. 1983 was the year he totally lost interest in his hobby when 2 of his best birds were stolen. Thereafter, he sold all his pigeons and retired from the sport.
In 1998, Bobby migrated to the United States with his family. He rediscovered the pigeon sport through the internet around September 2003. He wasted no time in contacting the sport development manager of the American Pigeon Racing Union (AU) and sought guidance. Reading materials on pigeon sport were mailed to him including contact information of people living in his area who may help him get started.
In January 2004, a loft was built in his backyard and Bobby joined pigeon discussion groups where he met Sonny Almario from Atlanta, Georgia. Sonny helped Bobby in his comeback to the sport by sending him young birds to raise. He also shared with Bobby his techniques on proper bird care and training.
Bobby's first racing season, he won races at his club including 1st places. Bobby's birds also won in the Bay Cities Combine (Central) with a total of seven (7) within the top fifty (50) positions including a 1st to conclude his 2004 racing season.
